Anyone own a nissan xterra?

http://www.nissanusa.com/xterra/#/ph...terior-photos/

WE have a 2005 Jeep Liberty Renegade 4x4 and are looking at replacing it...it has almost 50,000 miles

We do not like the look of the 09 jeeps, and have talked about waiting one more year to see what the 2010 models will bring, but then we saw the xterra..

We have only owned Chevy, GMC or Jeep so we do not know much about Nissan

Any one have opinions?

Also make the salesman go to the manager 3 times to change the offer then the manager will come and talk with you and you can talk even a better deal than you may have been offered before. We would take 3 "pencils" before the manager would come back and see if he could help make the deal. There are more but I am at work right now and can't go over everything. Like what down payments really are and how you may seem to be getting a good deal for your trade when in reality you may have got screwed somewhere down the line.
THis whole "three pencils" stuff is part of the whole BS I hate about buying a car. i mean, if you're like Guru or something and get your jolllies from spending five hours in a dealership going through a complete falsified tango with these suits, then fine. But I hate it just for the fact that it's completely fake and BS.

I understand that's your job and your deal, fine. But when I bought my XTerra, I researched online just what the dealer cost was and exactly what options and color I wanted. I got to the dealer and they had the exact car I wanted but WITH a sunroof (A complete waste on that car due to the gear basket prohibiting the sunroof from opening, and the wind deflector on the roof blocks out 90 percent of the sun...WTF??!!) and without a trailer hitch (which I added)
I was paying cash, too.
I did the whole rigmarole with them, it took FIVE hours from the time I walked onto the lot to the time I drove away in the car. (which I had to bring back on Monday to have the DUBBS removed. THEY PUT FRIGGEN DUBBS ON AN XTERRA! I felt like a fool all weekend.

I don't play the 5 hour game. If I find a car I want, I tell them what I'm willing to pay and go home. When the phone rings I tell them I'll be back up there to pick it up.

You don't have to play that game. You cut through the bullshit by doing your homework and walking in with a price you are willing to pay. When they start their dance, just tell them that you have many places you can obtain the SAME vehicle and they can take it or leave it.

If they continue to play the game, tell them how you would really like to do business with THEIR dealership, but you need your deal because it's a fair one. Give them your number and tell them that if they want to make the deal, they have your number, but you are going to continue your hunt at other dealerships until you find your price, which you know is a fair price. Your cell will ring before you make it back to your house.

Dad worked on Nissan/Datsun from '72-this spring. He swears by thier reliability (except for the vans that were Ford and now Renault). Said he could have made a lot more money had he chose to work on american cars. I've had great reliability from all of the Nissans I've owned. 200k miles and beyond aren't uncommon with Nissans.

Guy that grew up in our church has an Xterra and loves it. Had it now for about 3 years and has put almost 100k on it.

Just a thought for you on your negotiation and purchase of your vehicle. Automobile salespersons work on commission. Dealerships thrive on volume sometimes more than PRU profits (per retail unit)(that last statement can be discussed further if interested, and used to your advantage). The average saleperson in the USA sell approx. 12 cars per month. The average dealer guarantees a $100 mini for new car sales. (if gross profit is under "x" then salesperson will be paid the minimum commission.) Do your homework, decide on the vehicle, options, and price(then subtract $100) you are wanting to obtain BEFORE going to the dealer. When you get there play the game backwards... when outside with the salesman let it be known that you have a price you are going to pay and that if he helps you get that price for the vehicle that you want you will give him $100 in cash. This in effect doubles the commission he would normally make. This will also make him work "the desk" harder than he "works" you. Guaranteed.

Nissan's are great vehicles in general. I have a '97 Pathfinder with over 200k miles that has never once been in the shop for anything other than routine maintenance. Its never broken down, and never not started except for one time when the battery needed replaced.

I had a Nissan Sentra back in the day as well that I put over 300k miles on and I never had to put it in the shop either. It's alternator had to be replaced after about 200k miles but I did that myself.

Ive never had an Xterra, but in my experience you cant go wrong with a Nissan.

Next time I buy a car, I'm going to find some foul-smelling homeless guy, tell him my best price, and offer him half of anything he gets below that. Then I'll drop him off at the lot at 8 a.m. and tell him I'll pick him up at the end of the day.
