So here's how I'd do it. Crisp -1 (lack of a better option, he's a 9 hitter in an AL lineup) DeJesus -2 (one of the most prototypical 2 hitters in the game) Gordon -3 (you need this guy, he has power, speed and a batting eye. He's the only in-house true 3-hole candidate you have) Guillen - 4 (Ideally a 5 hitter, but the best option you have) Jacobs - 5 (can't have a guy with a .300 OBP hitting 4th) Butler - 6 (clogging the bases in the 6/7 holes isn't the end of the world, especially when both guys have HR power) Olivo - 7, he's a plus hitter...for a catcher. He's not an elite hitter by any stretch. Any higher than 7 is asking for trouble, lower than 8 botches the turn for the heart of the order. Callaspo - 8 (teahen isn't gonna work, guys) Aviles - 9 Re-sets the lineup well, has a little sock to drive in the slow guys. ______________________________________________________ I cannot emphasize enough how much you guys needed Orlando Hudson. Everything slots into place well with him in the lineup. Take the money you've bombed on Farnsworth and Teahen, offer the man a legit 3 year contract in the $6 million/year range (with incentives up to 8) and I'll bet you he takes it. Horrid market miscalculation by Moore. If Gordon and Butler come near .300 with an OPS near .850 and 25 HRs a piece, it's an 88 win lineup with a good pitching staff. Otherwise I see y'all fighting for .500 again. Not a well constructed team, IMO. |

How can we have 50 guys at first, at least half that for second/utility infielder, and not one decent option for a left handed starter? How does management not address this?

I think Teahen's ceiling is 15hrs...And if today is any indication, he is not going to cut it at 2b.

I hedged in my statement...
I certainly wouldn't make a definitive decision on a player after the first ST game. But, two errors in less than two innings makes for a day theat he (and I for that matter) would like to soon forget. |

With Aviles having limited range and Jacobs being a flat out butcher, the Royals infield cannot carry him. It will be historicly bad with Teahen there. And Teahen likely won't hit 20, even if he isnt making the transition to a new position which will unquestionably damage his offense. Yes, Callaspo does suck. That's why you needed Hudson. I wouldn't be surprised to see Adam Kennedy as the opening day starter for KC. TB isn't going to keep him, he's solid defensively, he's been a better player in the AL and he's cheap (he'd come for the veteran minimum after being released). |
