Relax. It's his first game trying it out. I would expect some errors. Only natural. Teahen has the skill to play ANY position out there. Good fielder wherever he is. I think he could even play short, probably an easier transition than 2b.

Yep. Pretty much. No way Aviles can keep up at the rate he did last season. Hopefully he continues to be a formidable player though.

If the cat in your avi put this lineup together, that's a pretty nice effort!

Luckily we're experimenting with Teahen in spring training rather than during the season.
He was injured the last 6-8 weeks of the season last year with after a sports hernia surgery. He should be just fine this season. I am also keeping him in the 12th round one league. I would not be surprised to see him overtake Utley as the #1 fantasy 2B this year.

Yeah I know what happened to him last year. I was replying to the post that said he got hurt in today's game. Don't know if it's serious or the poster was just exaggerating.

Anything with Olivo not in the 9 hole and Aviles not in the 3 spot would be a good start, but I'm not going to continue to discuss this with you.

C'mon, this isn't the beer leagues. 90% of the guys out there are supreme athletes. Hell, Teahen is, at best, an average MLB athlete. If it were that easy, everyone and their brother would be getting switched to 2b/SS as they're clearly scarce positions.

Making a position switch up the defensive spectrum (i.e. OF to 2b as opposed to 2b to OF) almost never works.

This isn't about fielding ground balls, it's about footwork and arm angle. It's about knowing how to read the speed of the ball, the cut of the IF grass and the speed of the runner at 1b. All the while recognizing that many times said runner is coming at you (and your back may be turned). When do you range to your left to take the throw from the SP? And it has to be done as a reflex, not as a thought.

I'd be stunned if he made the switch well. I'll be stunned if Skip Schumaker makes it in STL. It just doesn't happen.

Nope, not hurt(to my knowledge) today. It was my post talking about him picking up where he left off before last season's injury.

I think Teahen's athleticism gets blown out of proportion because he has great baseball instincts, and this is what makes him one of the best baserunners in the league.

But as for pure athleticism, all one needs to do is see him try to go back on a ball in the outfield to know that he isn't at an "elite" level. It's a fine but significant difference.
