Plaxico Burress, who was released by the Giants on Friday, apparently walked away from a good deal offered by the team before it cut ties with the wide receiver.

Burress had the chance to earn $29.5 million over the remainder of his contract, but he turned it down because he no longer wanted to be a Giant, The Newark Star-Ledger reports:

According to someone familiar with the negotiations, the team offered Burress the chance to earn all of the money that was written into his contract from here on out. All he had to do was end his fight for the money he forfeited over the last four weeks of last season (base salary, roster bonus and signing bonus) during which he was suspended for “conduct detrimental to the team” and start playing by their rules.

Burress said no to the deal, so the Giants said no to his further employment with the team.

That would be soooooo awesome since Plax turned down the money and New York imprisons him for 3+ years for violating the law and not giving him a break because of celeb status..

Man just think how pissed he would be throwing away almost 30mill and having to sit in prison and Drew loses all of his clients because of his bad advice..

The Giants would have packaged the deal in the form of a new contract and there might have been a penny lost or gained here and there. But they were willing to work with him and give him the chance to make roughly what he could have earned over the next four years if he hadn't blown a hole in his leg last November.

His agent is probably the person who told him to turn it down. Theres no way a player turns down a contract without his agents/lawyers approval, especially one that is in the same situation Plax is in. I would love to hear an explanation.

I believe the delay in the court case probably played a role in the Giants decision. The case was adjoined to the middle of June while the DA and Plax's lawyers work out a plea deal. That tells me the DA rejected the plea for no jail time served.

Honestly, what was Plax going to do if someone just so happened to pull out a gun --- Shoot it out like he's in a movie the Wild West. There's always undercover cops in the clubs looking for drug dealers. He's lucky to be alive after they heard his gun went off. for cryinoutloud...

I respect your opinion -- Rosenhaus is known for violating the policies of the NFLPA. He's shopping two other players under contract besides Plax -- Bolden and Chad Johnson. Drew has a long history of doing more harm than good for his clients.

Or the DA was not allowed to work out a no jail or short jail term that would have ended by September. Bloomberg is on record that there will not be Star treatment in this case.

This idiot deserves to be in jail. The gun could have easily killed an innocent person. This was the result of his incompetence. What if something out of his control triggered the gun like a nearby bar fight or someone bumping into him in a crowded bar.

NFL Live reported that in January Rosenhaus "accidentally" sent an email to other teams stating that Plax is available for a trade.

Do agents get paid as a percentage of the $ the player recieves during the contract or up-front when a contract is signed? If they get paid up front when the contract is signed the agent would have an incentive to get the player a new contract and not live up to the old contract.

Plaxico Burress, released Friday by the Giants amid an ongoing gun-possession case in New York, cursed out a police officer in Florida during a recent traffic stop, telling the cop he was going to be in trouble because Burress knew the sheriff "personally," the New York Post has reported.

Burress, who faces a possible 3½-year prison sentence on the gun charge, replied to each of the officer's questions and commands with an "[expletive] you" during the stop, the newspaper reported, citing police.

Broward County Deputy Sheriff Donald Harris pulled Burress over around 10:30 a.m. on March 18 for speeding on Interstate 95 near Fort Lauderdale, the Post reported. Harris opened the door of Burress' black 2008 Toyota Sequoia when the officer couldn't see inside the player's SUV.

"[Expletive] you," Burress said, according to the Post. "You can't open my [expletive] door."

Burress, who the police report said was driving like "he was going to kill somebody," was issued a $150 speeding citation, his fifth traffic ticket in Florida in the past month, the report said.

According to the police, a "violent and aggressive" Burress, 31, was asked to get out of his car to be checked for weapons.

"You're going to hear about this by the end of your shift," said Burress, who has a house in South Florida, as he returned to his car, according to the newspaper report.

Burress also received tickets for going 60 mph in a 45 mph zone, improper tags, improper lane change and improper window tinting on March 1, the Post reported.

His gun-possession case was adjourned last Tuesday until June 15.
