16 hours to sign Runyan

OK, if we sign Runyan in the next 24 hours his salary for 2009 is guaranteed. If we haven't signed him by then, I fully expect him to sign with the Eagles.

After working out for three teams, he expected some swelling in his knee but has reported no change and feels with 1 week of practice(to get his timing down) he would be ready to start.

So, would you sign him NOW to avoid another team getting him ... BUT take the risk that he gets a paycheck and never contibutes...

Sorry, this isn't some savior here that we should be taking that big of a risk on.

The Eagles likely told him the offer they were going to make after Sunday. The Chiefs would have to offer something severely substancial over what the Eagles would to even get him to consider it.

He lives near Philly. He knows the system. They are contenders.

Signing him before Monday is stupid to the millionth degree.

I wholeheartedly disagree. He could be a VERY solid addition for two years... giving us time to find and groom a good young replacement.

More importantly, his work ethic and intensity are severely lacking on the offensive side of the ball. (I can't emphasize enough how much we NEED this)

He is WELL worth the very limited risk.

Who knows healthy that knee will be during the season, at his age it isn't worth the risk or money imo

He's not going to sign for peanuts, and while the Chiefs do have money, investing it in a 35-year old tackle coming off an injury, without football contact in over 7 months, is dumb no matter how you want to slice it.

If they sign him after Monday, great. If not, I'm not going to cry about it.

No, it is a RISK. One that if it works out is very smart... only dumb if his knee doesn't hold up.

I don't see ANY reason to worry about his health... if a person is VERY disciplined in regards to their recovery, microfracture surgery isn't a huge deal... the problem is that most pro athletes are not the most disciplined people. Jon is.

Do I think he is a long term answer? not at all. Do I think he single handedly will win us games? nope. Do I think he will help shape the discipline and intensity of our future offensive lines? absolutely.

(Oh and he may actually help our QB last most of the season)

Well, this pipe dream is just that. He's not signing before tomorrow.

To be fair, I have been a fan of his since 1992... so I am a tad bit biased.... but on that same note, I know what he can bring to the team and how much we need it.

Yup, I think the deadline passed 20 mins ago. Which means it is highly unlikely we get him at all...

If we sign him, he'll prove to be totally broken down and done.

If anybody else signs him, he'll play another five Pro Bowl caliber years.

That's the way the universe works.

If the Eagles sign Runyan, I would bet they will cut Reggie Brown.

If the Eagles cut Reggie Brown, I could see the Chiefs signing him.

So, my thinking is that either the Chiefs will sign John Runyan or Reggie Brown.

The Chiefs have plenty of money right now and need to spend money anyways. Give him a nice big one or two year contract. If he fails on the field, well at least we tried filling a position.. but at least he helps us reach the salary cap floor.
