Is McElroy the worst QB to win a national title?

I'm trying to think of adequate competition for him here. He was downright awful and had been marginal at best in the regular season.

The guy didn't light it up, but they faced a tough defense and with that ground game and the lead they had early.... why force things in the passing game? McElroy may not be the greatest QB in the NCAA, but he doesn't suck. As a starting QB, he hasn't lost a game since the 8th grade and he plays in a good offense.

I was not impressed with him at all. I know they were coverage sacks, but he held onto the ball way too long resulting in way too many sacks. He's supposedly fairly mobile, so he needed to roll out of the pocket and get rid of the ball on some of those plays.

Colt McCoy-QB-Player Jan. 8 - 1:48 pm et

Texas QB Colt McCoy was diagnosed with a mere pinched nerve following Thursday night's BCS title game loss.
He'll be recovered "within days." McCoy, injured on the Longhorns' second possession, returned to the sideline during the game with his shoulder pads on but never reentered. The fifth-year senior's toughness is being questioned, and his 2010 draft stock was already dropping after a miserable Big 12 Championship game effort. McCoy isn't a first-round prospect.

Colt McCoy's Unusually Tragic Boyhood Dream Comes True

PASADENA, CA—Following a 37-21 loss to Alabama in which he suffered a game-ending injury just five plays in and was forced to watch the Crimson Tide defense take advantage of his absence, Texas quarterback Colt McCoy told reporters that the heart-breaking defeat fulfilled a depressing dream he has had since he was a boy growing up in New Mexico.

"I think every kid, whether he is playing high school football or a pickup game with friends, imagines what it would be like to one day lead your team to the Rose Bowl, stand on the sidelines, and then helplessly watch your team get dismantled on the grandest stage imaginable," said a teary-eyed McCoy, adding that the irony of never missing a game due to injury until the most important game of his life was just icing on the cake.

"This was a dreadful storybook ending. I really couldn't ask for more."

McCoy added that he plans on fulfilling another of his wretched boyhood dreams by being a bust in the upcoming NFL draft and having a largely disappointing NFL career.
