I agree. The original SNL cast was great and did groundbreaking stuff, but a good portion of it was still unfunny. The late 80's/early 90's cast was probably the best.

No I can't, because I haven't committed them all to memory. Beyond being too young [well, not technically, I was 4-5 when it debuted] to see them all live, we didn't have a TV from when I entered preschool to HS.

But I have seen a few uncut full episodes over the years and recall there was a good deal of filler to be seen. The characters might've given them some spark just on star power, but they'd be watered down variations of their 'classics' or a situation that just laid there, or a reference [political or pop] that had long since passed.

Certainly, the Samurai sketch couldn't have killed all 185 times they trotted it out.

And so you note, the tiresome if humorous cheeseburger cheeseburger sketch . . . is counted amongst the CLASSICS. Wouldn't be surprised if, a few weeks later there was a similar sketch 'Suvlaki. . . suvlaki'

Definitely. People always remember the "glory years" as the time when something was new and exciting to them, and then eventually it got old.

My dad thinks SNL was the best during the Belushi era, I think it was the best during the Myers, Carvey, Farley era, and my little brothers think the current SNL cast is hilarious because it's all they know.
