Did you ever smoke in a store other than a resturaunt?

I remember the local courthouse in my home town had a big ashtray in the elevator. We used to sneak the "discarded" and try to smoke them when we were little.

Well that is a thing of the past. Kansas enacts a state wide smoking ban July 1st.

http://www.kansas.com/2010/03/12/122...k=omni_popular

The ban, which will take effect July 1, will ban smoking in bars, restaurants, libraries, theaters, retail stores and most work places. It overrides weaker bans like Wichita's partial ban.

Supporters contend the restrictions will protect public health and reduce deaths from cancer and other diseases.

Critics argue the limits will hurt businesses. They also note the bill exempts the gambling floors of state-owned casinos as well as tobacco shops, private clubs and designated areas of nursing homes.

I was an undergradate from 1992-1996.

I remember having a smoking room in the university library. I was a smoker back then, and I couldn't even stomach that room for very long.

One of my writing teachers also let us smoke in his office. We'd often convene our creative writing workshops there so everyone could smoke.

By the time I was in grad. school in 1997, everything had changed.

Thirty years ago there weren't very many places smoking wasn't allowed. And thirty years ago, most people smoked, or at least it seemed that way.
