Herm could draft and find talent. Just couldn't coach.
McDaniels could do neither. No brainer here

McDaniels was perfect. Poor guy was misunderstood. Denver sucks.

This is real simple for me. As much as I thought Herm was a hack for a coach, he at least handed us a couple of good corners and had a good last draft. McDumbshi** left his franchise an utter wreck. He drafted Tebow. Plus he was a terrible head coach.
I will say this. McDoogle has Herm beat in one area--he's at least a decent Coordinator. Herm probably couldn't hack it as a Def Coord, even...we'll never know, but my gut tells me he's good at one thing--coaching defensive backs.

Carl was not directing the team in his final season. Herm got Clark's approval to go young and start rebuilding, which Carl would have never done. It was no secret. Whitlock spent the 2008 season calling him "the artist formerly known as King Carl", because he wasn't the King anymore. Herm shouldn't have a single vote in this poll. |

Yeah, I'm the same way. The thread poses a great question, and it also causes great internal conflict. I voted for McDaniels, because he took a team that had some up and coming stars and traded them all away and then traded a first-round draft pick away and generally had no concept of managing a team. There may have been some potential for redemption on the field, but he wasn't headed that direction yet, and his apparent skill in driving away his most talented players overrode it. Herm took a team that was still strong, but it was definitely headed downward with retirements and stuff, so it was going down anyway. Herm just took it past the basement and then kept digging. His philosophy was horrible and his game-day management was horrible, and he was killing the team with it, but at the same time it does appear that he brought something to the table on draft day. With him, though, there was no potential for redemption since he was so bad at managing talent. The bottom line is that both are absolute disasters, but Herm ruined a team that was already declining, whereas McDaniels ruined a team that should've been okay.
