Chiefs What defensive improvments do you want to see? - Page 4

Romeo introduced the new defense last year and while it was improved from years past we still have a ways to go....what improvements might you Chiefs fans like to see out of the defense this year?

Personally I'd like to see better pass coverage over the middle and more blitzing up the middle.

It would be nice if holding got called from time to time on the OTs collaring Tamba with their arms.

TJack, build on the improvements he made getting off blocks. That was apparent with most all of the DL with Pleasant and especially Crennell's presense. Part of 2 gapping is settling into the block and sometimes not penentrating. Too much he just lets the block come to him, stands up, and tries to swat down the pass. He did improve from year one but no question much more is needed of him.

NT. Don't know who it will be. I'm suprised Edwards shoulder hasn't gave out by now as it was a problem when he was in Buffalo and off and on in KC. Plus he gets pushed around too much for a guy his size. I'd like to see Smith part of the mix there becuase he brings an attitude and swager and adds versatility. Have to trust Romeo's judgement on that. He knows him best of the coaching staff and FO. Smith wants to come back and if the team wants it too a deal won't be hard to do. Torribio is a guy they liked because he got coached up well at GB and can anchor well. Don't know if he'll be ever be more of a rotationall guy. Powe is nice to get excited about but he could be anywhere from being part of the rotation to making the team but being a game day inactive to getting waived and hoping they can put him on the practice squad. Always hard to tell with rookie DL especially a guy like powe. I would love to see him pick it up quick and take advantage though. Would love a Pat Williams or Kelly Gregg here. Possible as Pioli has been around some old NT's like Ted Washington and Keith Traylor. they don't need to play 40 snaps a game. Just tell them we have a role as a 2down NT and sometimes those things work out well for both sides.

Studebaker has to take the next step and be more consistant at LOLB. Don't get washed out and set the edge with the outside arm free. Keep contain. Give Tamba some help in the pass rush department and work on some counter moves. Houston i'd like to see 3rd downs at first and go from there. the sky is the limit if he keeps his head screwed on straight. Sheffield got cleared medically at the end of the season physicals after the loss to Baltimore. Sounds like he has the right attitude as well and was really coming on last camp. Even played some ILB in one of the games and made romeo think of ways to get him on the field. Reminds me a bit of Mo Lewis years ago from the Jets. Belcher has to keep improving and not plateau on his level of play. Had a good showing in the ravens game. With Vrabel gone he has a chance to stick on the field 3rd downs. Which he will have to improve his weakness in pass coverage. That nickel lb spot opposite DJ could go to Cory Greenwood who they like alot. DJ has finally found a home dropping into the hole in pass coverage like he did at texas. I know he had issues with thumb injuries but he's got to hold onto more of those passes and turn them into turnovers.

Lewis has to prove he is more than a nickel safety. He started but his game was much better against the pass than run. I don't know that Langford will ever become more than he is: a special teamer and 4-5th safety. Washington needs to shit or get off the pot and hopefully challenge Lewis. He's got a tone of talent and athleticism. Played very well under the lights in a very intense game in the opener. Was part of a group that bracketed Gates and did a heck of a job. His best game as a Chief by far. Need to see more of that. Jalil Brown will push him in that spot even if he mainly plays CB he has played S. Could also push arenas who needs to take it up another notch as well.

this d has its holes but the competition is better and i like the group they are forming.

I like that Pat williams thread where he said he is atleast interested in KC. I know he is old but it's been awhile since a decent vet has said that.
