Who's eaten rabbit?

My birthday is next week and my girlfriend has been telling me she's buying me a pet. I've insisted that she not but she bought me a baby rabbit. I told her I'm going to eat it. I've skinned and gutted plenty of rabbits but I've never done anything but grill it. Any other recipes worth trying with rabbit meat? I'm going to feed it to her and tell her afterwards.

I always preferred trout when it came to fish cleaning. They have got to be the easiest.

That doesn't sound good at all. For one, you'd break the guts open doing that, and have bile and feces and urine on the meat. That would be a bacterial explosion of everything you absolutely don't want touching the meat you plan to eat. On top of that, the lungs and heart can't be squeezed out, due to the way they're attached to the rib cage. You have to open it up to get that part out at least.

Rabbits are really easy to clean. Why not just clean them normally and not worry about all that bacteria and nastiness in the guts?

Well, I clean and cook my meat soooo.....

All I know is it works. It's a fast way to field dress, and I've done it for years.

Keep in mind, I mainly hunted rabbits when I was a kid, and haven't hunted anything in about 25 years now. It was just a kid thing. If somebody offered me rabbit, I'd try it now, although admittedly I wouldn't go out of my way to find that person.

Yeah I eat it maybe every 5+ years. It's not like it's so delicious that it offsets the thought of eating a rodent.

Rabbits are not rodents.

Rabbits belong to the Leporid family, meaning that have two rows of top front teeth. Their sharp front teeth, used for gnawing, grow continuously.
