Alex Smith just can't get it done

The guy just can't get it done in crunch time. Just another mediocre season.

He has ZERO confidence in himself. Sad.

Best chances at winning given KC's current situation is to patch up the oline, and make smith a play action QB. More sets with Kelce/Fasano/Sherman all on the field at the same time. JC, Davis & DAT should be splitting up 30+ carries minimum. Play action is the best chance to give alex the time for 5/7 step drop routes to develop. Otherwise your looking at checkdowns, screens/bubbles and 40 passes per game.

Linkenbach, Harris, Fulton, Fisher

The Steelers destroyed these guys and dropped into a zone; see Arizona's game plan.

JC had what, 39 yes rushing? 6 sacks.

It starts up front. Ried & Dorsey deserve the credit for the dumpster fire OL

The offensive line can't be fixed anytime soon. And a $60 million quarterback should be able to overcome a bad line.

There isn't a QB in this league that would be successful with this line. Not enough time for the 5/7 step game, so the D loads the box to play the run/3 step game.

Because Smith refuses to threaten them deep. Shit...he refuses to beat the blitz.

That's exactly right. You pay a QB that much money he should be able to overcome somewhat. I wouldn't hate Smith as much if not for his contract. I just hate that the Chiefs extend him when there was no need too. They could be done with him now. If he would have busted out you could have tagged him. Just another horrible move by this organiztion.

Then you risk losing Houston. The approach was fine on re-signing the QB, it's just the neglecting of bringing in playmakers to get the most out the investment, that I find puzzling.

It's not a good approach with journeyman quarterback who plays not to make mistakes. A better quarterback would raise all boats.

A journeyman QB, hits Free Agency. Smith was on one team and then traded. He also ranks about middle of the pack in the entire NFL. That's far from what I consider a journeyman QB. The approach was sound. Debating Alex Smith's skillset is an entirely different debate.

You're saying because the Chiefs traded for Smith instead picking him up in free agency he's not journeyman quarterback? That has nothing do with him being a journeyman quarterback. By your definition then Matt Cassel isn't a journeyman. Ranking in middle of the pack among NFL quarterbacks is pretty good indication that he's only a journeyman. I'm sorry considering what the Chiefs have gotten out of Smith the approach looks flawed.
