Da'Rick Rodgers Released

Chiefs release WR Da'Rick Rogers
Adam Teicher, ESPN Staff Writer

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Talented but troubled wide receiver Da'Rick Rogers was released by the Kansas City Chiefs just hours before they were to begin their mandatory minicamp. Da'Rick Rogers has caught only 14 passes for 192 yards and two touchdowns during his NFL career.

Rogers, 23, was one of the SEC's best wide receivers in 2011, when he caught 67 passes for more than 1,000 yards and scored nine touchdowns for Tennessee. But he was subsequently thrown off the team for disciplinary problems and transferred to Tennessee Tech.

Rogers has been unable to make it in the NFL. He signed with the Chiefs, his third NFL team, in January but hadn't been impressive during offseason practice. The Chiefs also may have felt comfortable releasing Rogers because of the emergence of rookie wide receiver Chris Conley, who has played well in practice.

Rogers pleaded guilty in May in Indianapolis to resolve a 2014 DUI case. He was sentenced to one day in jail and six months of probation.

The Chiefs also released offensive lineman Kelvin Palmer, who recently signed as a free agent, and signed offensive lineman Tavon Rooks of Kansas State.

People want Avant to be Reid's Vermeil/Eddie Kennison pickup...he's closer to Haley/Bobby Wade.

Not much life left in that dog and if he's our #2 we are ****ed.

There's absolutely no reason for him to be any higher than the #5 option.

DAT should definitely be above him as well as Wilson and Conley.

These "#s" being applied.. do they really mean a thing? There is Maclin.. and then there are a bunch of bodies that will try to show they deserve more snaps than the other bodies in TC/preseason.

I don't think anyone can keep Conley from being #2 WR by the end of training camp. His size, speed, hands, catch radius, and smarts balance so well with Maclin and Kelce that it is inevitable. Alex seems comfortable throwing to him down the field. And he's no slouch at blocking.

This really would be a fantastic outcome. Will be interesting as all hell to see (and read about) the WR progress before September.

I don't. I hope he nevers sees the field after week 1.

But right now Wilson is Boerigter, Connely is Jon Baldwin, and Thomas is Dante Hall. And Darick rodgers is bobby ****ing sippio. Pretty much total unknowns beyond the dreams of fans.

How is it so hard to see the need for a veteran like Avant?

Baldwin had 254 yards and 1 TD in 11 games his rookie season. He had 325 yards and 1 TD in 15 games on a terrible 2-14 teams (and season).

Avant had 363 yards and 1 TD in 16 games last year, with one catch of 41 yards making up for a big chunk of his total.

Personally, I'd rather give the 5th WR spot to a rookie rather than an aging vet.

No way, unless Wilson is hurt.

He will split slot reps with Thomas, IMO.

Well, Frankie Hammond will have every chance to take that 5th receiver spot.

I'm hoping that Kenny Cook, Da'Ron Brown or Fred Williams steps up and takes the 5th WR spot.

I had hopes for Hammond after watching him in 2013 preseason but was disappointed he couldn't get on the field in 2014, when clearly, there was a need. I'm not sure he belongs on an NFL roster.

I'm with you, everything points to this guy being ready by the end of camp.

Conley with his size and speed on the outside, Wilson with his speed and smaller stature that allows him to get into/out of his breaks quicker working the slot... yep, that's the way it should look.
