Not to send this off to the DC, but my industry is very automated and was one of the first to adopt mechanization/automation. Which is good because I wouldn't be competitive in the global market if I wasn't. Even if I was forced to not adopt automation, Brazil, Australia, Russia, etc. would adopt it and any labor gains the national economy got would be lost in the long term, because I couldn't afford to pay my help to compete globally. Dunno about that. The best option is one close to post-scarcity where the absolute necessities of food and shelter are provided for relatively no cost freeing people to spend excess money on whatever they desire.
