Computers Windows 7 updates - Page 2

I just installed a clean copy of Windows on a IBM Thinkpad and for some reason Windows Update never connects. I click find updates and it just sits there searching indefinitely. It has solid internet connection. I can view youtube and surf without issue but it never finds updates. is it a problem with the Microsoft servers or a problem with the laptop. I've never seen this before.

I have recently fixed multiple PCs with windows update problems and it has had to do with the windows activation or windows update tool itself.

It was pre SP1 but I have two of this laptop and that one had no problems at all doing a complete reinstall of base win just two months ago.

I've already got ubuntu up and running and fully updated. I'll play with this for awhile and see if its an improvement.

Same thing happened to me recently...on 2 out of 3 win7 installs - all already included sp1. Wired connection. No rhyme or reason that I can see. I just let them sit overnight and eventually they update. Appears to be the new "normal"

Was having this problem over the weekend after a fresh install of Win7 Home 64 bit. I solved it by manually downloading IE 11 (10 is the default) and installing.

After the install of IE 11 it will take you through a series of setup options. Make sure you choose auto update and all the security options to automatic and let your PC run over night.

I've tinkered with it for days and this is the only solution I've gotten to work. When I'd try to do it manually I'd get the same results the OP was getting.

I'm sure you probably have it solved by now but just in case anyone else is going through the same issue I'd thought I'd bump.
