Quarterbackery: Round 1, Heat 1
The talk of quarterback history got me wondering about franchise histories with quarterbacks. What franchises have had good luck and which franchises have had bad luck?
It's too easy to by myopic about the Chiefs, so I thought a tournament could be fun where we compare different teams' quarterback histories.
It's a little tough to define the time period, because we have some teams that are nearly 100 years old and others that are less than 20. Also, quarterbacking has changed over the decades, and a long-lived quarterback can last 15+ years.
I decided to go back 50 years, which is long enough that it'll wash out one lucky quarterback pick, but not so far back that the quarterback was blocking in a flying wedge. If a team is less than 50 years old, I'll also include "% of franchise life" so we can do a head to head comparison.
We'll go in alphabetical order, so our first tournament entries are the Arizona Cardinals and Atlanta Falcons. Let's take a look at the leading passers for the Atlanta Falcons over the past 50 years. Which team has a better 50-year record at the quarterback position?
