Denon and Yamaha are two top brands. You get what you pay for when it comes to receivers IMO, so be prepared.

Heh, reminds me of my brother's advice on buying a TV. Just got my stimulus check today.
I've got a roomie who i think (kinda hope, actually) might be moving out soon. So, I was telling my bro, I want a big screen, that'll be nice in the living room, should he go and take his TV with him. But for now, it's gonna be in my bedroom. I've got my eye on a nice Sharp 42", but thought it might be too big for a bedroom. His advice, "Buy the biggest, nicest one you can afford. You won't be sorry" |

Here's what I went w/. It's not the most expensive unit, but I'm pretty happy w/ my Onkyo unit. Of course if you can afford better. Go for it. But the Onkyo stuff is a pretty good bang for your buck.

I've heard Denon is supposed to be the best...Anyone have experience with those? Is the sound quality worth the price difference?

I went with Harmon Kardon. I bought this unit back in March of this year - awesome clean sound.

For the same money, you usually get more whistles and bells with Onkyo, but I prefer the clean sound of the HK. I've had my HK for over a year now, and I never regretted the purchase. |
