this has become the norm now. 8 weeks in a row followed by the 4 week holiday break. Then they show 2 eps and take another 3 week break. More new eps until March then go on another 3 week break before May sweeps.
Annoying as hell.

The other problem is that people are showing that they actually LIKE the 10-13 episode "seasons" on cable and the networks are starting to follow the format as well. Personally I prefer 20-24 episode seasons.

I'd rather they just take longer breaks between seasons instead of doing breaks during seasons

I'm trying to remember how they did it back in the 70s and 80s. It never really seemed like they took any long breaks back then other than christmas. yet they always made it to May.

Klondike 3 part mini-series was pretty good. History Channel I think
DTV's 101 Hit & Miss a 6 part British series. The blond middle wife from BIg Love plays a transgender hit(wo)man. I stumbled on to it blindly while channel surfing for the last two episodes & did not know what was going on until her in front of a mirror with a dong scene. |

It depends on the show for me. Some shows are good at 13. 30 min comedies are always better at 23. Some cable shows are anywhere ffrom 12 to 18. I think it all depends on the writers if they feel they can do their season story. I mean the show has to be popular in order to get more episodes. Burn notice was all over the place from like 12 to 20. lol

There's a difference with the cable shows. They show them all within a 3 month slot and then move onto the next series. Network TV has the show slotted for the entire year.

Yeah, once they get established and are bringing in some good money with he cable networks, the writers get some leeway with the length of episodes within reason. This years Sons of Anarchy had 90 min to 120 min episodes. I never seen that shit happen ever, that was a first.
