If Croyle doesn't take another snap in 2007

If Croyle doesn't take another snap this year because of his "bruised" back, does your opinion of him as the potential QBOTF change? Do you think he's too fragile and injury prone? Would you think about drafting a Woodson or Brohm or Ryan in round one?

It certainly doesn't do him any favors.

I think a Jake Long is a bigger priority than taking a QB in the 1st Round. Unless we're going to drop coin in FA to fix this line.

No to Brohm
Brown I am undecided on and I am also undecided about Croyle. I thought the point was to give him a chance to develop - the injury to his back is legit, is it not? I mean isn't it more indicative of the O-line allowing Defense to get to him, and for that matter Huard as well? He also gets hurt a lot, they get hit a lot.

It makes you wonder if he's going to be a player that's constantly nagged by injuries. Like he was in college.

Croyle got hurt scrambling for a 1st down, not getting sacked.
That said, we need to bet the farm on a new OL and get the most out of the skill players we already have : LJ, Kolby, Gonzo, Bowe. Their #s should all go up with a real NFL OL which (hopefully) will include Jake Long or Ryan Clady at OLT.

If he doesn't play the majority of snaps for the rest of the year we must plan as if he is not the answer. I'd say that means drafting a QB and signing a younger vet.

If Brodie does play well yet this year we can just sign an older vet to be his back up

It defintely refreshes the knock against him coming out of college that he was injury prone.

Doesn't matter how much of a rocket arm you have if you can't stay consistently healthy expecially at the QB position.

Yep, we've seen what a solid OL can do for an offense with otherwise-average playmakers.

So because of the knee injuries in college, correct? I think he deserves the chance to see if that's the case. I don't know if I'd go drafting another QB right away, give the guy a year of full time starting, if the injuries continue, then worry - it's too early to devote much worry to that now. Huard also gets hurt behind this line.

Agreed.

This off-season will present a great opportunity at improving this Offensive Line...and quickly.

I'm not opposed to drafting a QB early even if Croyle plays and plays well but it would have to be someone better than Brohm.

Very well, I didn't realize it was a scramble but many QB's get hurt while scrambling, I think we're creating an issue here though.

I tend to agree...
We haven't seen enough of him yet to make any real assessments of how healthy or even how productive he can be as a starter. That's the bad part about it.

We needed to go into 2008 with a clear direction at that position.
That either he was or wasn't the guy.

2008 shouldn't be an extended evaluation period. Not for Croyle.
It should be the beginning of the Croyle era...
Or the beginning of the evaluation period for a Rookie QB.
