Another Surtain thread? You goddamned right
I've made it pretty obvious this guy is THE ONE that I think will lead us to the promised land. Or should I say the final piece of the illustrious puzzle. This is mostly old news, I just found it interesting that the Miami papers are now talking about the possibility of a 4th rounder this year and a conditional 2nd rounder next year being acceptable. That would be awesome from this Chiefs fans chair. I just post this stuff as I find it, if it's getting old let me know and I'll knock it off.
http://www.palmbeachpost.com/dolphin...hins_0405.html Miami adds Edwards to defensive backfield By Greg A. Bedard Palm Beach Post Staff Writer Tuesday, April 05, 2005 In a move that could signal the departure of cornerback Patrick Surtain, the Dolphins on Monday announced the signing of veteran cornerback Mario Edwards to a one-year contract. The financial terms of the deal were not available, but Edwards, 29, is believed to have signed for the veteran's minimum to join a defensive backfield that currently is crowded. But if Surtain is traded to Kansas City as expected, Edwards would compete with Reggie Howard and Will Poole for the spot opposite Sam Madison. If Surtain remains in Miami, Edwards would be the favorite at the nickel spot. The Chiefs have agreed to Surtain's contract terms — including an eight-figure signing bonus — but continue to face off with the Dolphins over compensation. Dolphins coach Nick Saban said last week that he will insist on at least a third-round draft choice — most likely a second-rounder. But the Chiefs have not yet offered more than a fourth-round pick. While the Chiefs may give in to the Dolphins' demands, a compromise might be reached with Kansas City sending Miami its fourth-round selection this year and a conditional second-round pick next year. The second-round pick would be contingent on Surtain making enough starts. By signing the 6-foot, 200-pound Edwards, Saban continues to remake his defense into the big, physical unit that he desires. Edwards spent his first four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, who drafted him in the sixth round of the 2000 draft from Florida State. Edwards played for Tampa Bay last season. In his career, Edwards has made 50 starts with 195 tackles, four interceptions and 33 passes defensed. |

Good, it's more picks given up, but I like the idea of saving this year's 2nd so we can get one more body that might be able to play this year. Priest, Roaf, Shields, etc... don't seem to be interested in playing much longer, we need to make this team this year as good as we can make it.

I agree wholeheartedly, that's why I'm hoping we can give up next years 2nd instead of this one. And hell, if we can squeeze the cap room, and trade up for DJ, all the better. |

While I agree about Surtain, your thread header is likely to offend quite a few BB members.

Well, we all offend each other from time to time from where I'm sittin. No one else seems to really worry too much about it, so I won't either. However if it offends you personally Vlad, I'll apologize. You've always been stand up with me. |

If the Chiefs use their 2nd rounder to draft a player who actually contributes this year, I'll streak around Nzoner's game room in jubilation. I don't see it happening. The last 2nd rounder the Chiefs drafted who lived up to that billing is arguably Tongue. Prior to that? Grunhard.
It's ironic that the Chiefs can't find a starter with their 2nd round pick in the past decade but they drafted stars with their 2nd rounders in the 80's and sucked ass. |

I honestly think Cornerbacks are over rated..
Last year we had 2 really good shutdown cover corners in Lucas and Trufant, but our Pass defense was pretty much shredded after having our front 7 (once again) get hammered by injuries.. Early in the year when our front 7 was healthy, our pass defense was very good, but once more options became available to the QB no Cornerback can cover in todays NFL and expect not to get burnt often.. I believe having good blitzing linebackers and using them wisely is the key to a great pass defense.. If you can't blitz, you're pretty much fooked in todays NFL IMO.. |
