Consolation Prizes for the 2005 Kansas City Chiefs

Trent Green over 4,000 yards for the third year in a row with 4,014 yards!

Larry Johnson with a monster season. 1,750 yards and 21 total touchdowns.

Eddie Kennison posts his second consecutive 1,000 yard season. 68 catches, 1,102 yards and 5 TD.

Kawika Mitchell over 100 tackles for the first time in his career! Had a fine season with 105 tackles, 2 sacks and 1 interception.

Unfortunately...Trent Green loses the QB rating race with Jake Plummer. By one tenth of a point.

90.2 to 90.1.

Larry Johnson emerges as best RB in NFL.

Willie Roaf says he's coming back.

No more Grandpa Dick next year.

Emergence of several players as strong contributors:

1. Larry Johnson
2. Kawika Mitchell
3. Benny Sapp
4. John Welbourn
5. Lawrence Tynes

Jared Allen proves that he's the real deal.

1 playoff appearance in 5 seasons for DV
1 Playoff appearance in the last 8 seasons for the Chiefs
0 playoff wins in 12 years
0 Super Bowl appearances in 17 seasons for Carl

Every team in the AFC West except the Chiefs have been to the Super Bowl since Carl has been in power.

The only stats that truly matter.

We'll probably finish as the #1 offense again, too. We were only 1 yard back of Seattle in terms of yds/game (15 yds behind them total), and with a 500 yard game and the Seahawks resting guys, we should pass them easily.

Green still has a higher passer rating overall in a Chiefs uniform than Plummer has in a Denver uniform. If the Donkey faithful can't handle that simple truth, that's just tough shit for them.

Yeah I know but we still do this QB rating thing every year.

Things to look forward to....

1. Roaf coming back. This is vitale because this means we use our 1st rounder on a DE, DT if we are using a 4-3 defense. If using a 3-4 then I would go with a CB. Warfield and Sapp as nickel and dime backs are a good thing. Shields may be gone but Welbourn is a very very solid RG. Sampson should be back and he should be solid. Our offensive line will still be solid with Wiegman, Waters and Roaf on the left side.

2. Larry Johnson being the featured back. This guy was on pace to go for 2000+ yards with 30+ TD's had he been the starter all season. This guy will be an all-pro come next season. Watch out Jim Brown!

3. A new and defensive minded head coach. We got the personel to field a great offense but we must still run the modified Air Coryell offense. Defense needs to come back to Arrowhead. We've all seen signs of that happening, but it needs to be more consistent. A new HC that knows more about defense than a 4 year old is a good thing. Having a coach that isn't full of estrogen is a good thing. This team needs to be disciplined more, especially on defense.

4. The 3-4 defense. Bell should go back into his natural position and will thrive there. Mitchell is gonna be a monster next season as will DJ. Can Barber or Key Fox stay healthy?

5. Benny Sapp is the man and will continue to get better. His emergence as a good NCB will send McCleon packing.

Defense Defense Defense people!!!

We should still use our top pick on a O-Tackle to play RT in 2006 and be a replacement for Roaf.

Bell should be cut. He's injured and will never be the same, and his salary (and guaranteed $) jumps on 2006

I think we still beef up the O-Line, either with the first pick or at least the second. Sampson is young and looks to be good, but when Willie Roaf does retire, we'll want a replacement groomed and ready to step in as Right or Left Tackle.
