Seriously, the tumbler turns on a set of pads that are attached to the front and back cover. They are probably worn out . Whats going to happen next is the tumbler belt will break and then you'll be down. It's an easy fix. Take a putty knife and slide it under the front of the top lid to pop it loose. The front panel comes off with two screws under ther bottom right on the front. Google up Maytag repair parts to find what you need. I just went thru this.

Perhaps you shouldn't have beaten the crap out of it when you brought it into the house?

Probably from Factory Direct or another appliance shop, but they will probably be cheaper bought online if you don't mind waiting.
http://www.amazon.com/Maytag-Tumbler.../dp/B002GPG7UO if I was you, I'd replace the rollers and lube the tension belt at the same time. http://www.amazon.com/Maytag-Roller-..._bxgy_k_text_b Note: These may NOT be the exact parts for your model.

Mine was making that exact same noise last week and I figured it was a roller or a bearing somewhere going bad. It turned out that there was a large accumulation of lint between the fins of the blower wheel, which was causing it to be severely unbalanced. I cleaned out the lint and no more noise. I would have never guessed that was where it was coming from.
