Any in-line skaters here? Advice needed.

My wife wants me to get us all inline skates for xmas. I have been on them before and had a good time. I was just curious what to look for when buying them. I see you can spend anywhere from $50 to $200+ on them, and was just wondering where the "sweet spot" for casual use is. Also, any must-have features or things to stay away from.

TIA
DT

Oh - features?

Wrist guards - minimum. You can trash your knees, elbows, and everything else on the pavement and still earn a living. If you send your ulna and radius through your palm, forget about everything from masturbation to scratching your ass for 3 months.

No shiot Phob.

Wear something on your skull too. I've had to CT way too many calvariums that have fracured and cause subdural bleeds and much rehab time.

Use your head for more than a brake.

Well, I'm not nearly that intelligent. I've never worn head protection, but I feel pretty comfortable on the skates. If you stay forward like you're supposed to, you'll always fall forward. Under those circumstances, wrist protection is critical. But, if a beginner has a tendency to fall backwards, I would highly recommend head protection.

Another feature is boot style systems. Don't buy those plastic hinged skates that were so popular several years ago. I had a pair when they first came out and they hurt. I love my K2's.
