Help from Microsoft Office Guru's...

Please don't delete/move until I get a couple of answers....

I have a Microsoft Access project due in the next couple of weeks, and was wondering if anyone could give me a hand with it. Basically it is just creating a database, and providing minimal security with it.

If anyone could give me a hand, or had a simplistic database that I could use as an example to work off of, it would be much appreciated. My instructor is a complete *ss, and I am running out of options. I am struggling through it, but a little help would really speed up the process.

Enormous rep to anyone that could lend a helping hand....

Just an FYI, but you WOULD get answers even if this was moved.

The idea that the tech forum has no traffic is absolutely false.

What kind of database?

I use several. I have a production database I keep on my data entry staff, a music database I keep on my own material, a stock database of my wife's shipping materials... etc

The wizards in access will walk you through any process (except detail in the reports). I won't give you my databases, but I would be happy to answer any questions or assist you.

I'm not looking for a database from anyone to turn in. That could come back to haunt me. What I am looking for is a database (like your music one) to work off of. I don't have any type of physical example to work from. I'm going to do a stat tracker database (the choice is up to us), however I just can't find anyone to share an Access project with me to use as an example. Would you be willing to share your music one? If not, I understand. Bottom line is that we have to present our project, so there is no way I could use yours.

Nope, I can't give you the database itself. Sorry.

Let's start with basics.
What stats do you want to track?
How many stats?
What or who are the owners of the stats? In other words, what relative comparison do you want to use in every report (Baseball stats by player, driving stats by age group, etc).
Do you want any relative comparisons on the stats?
Are you having trouble building tables?
Are you having trouble building queries?
Are you having trouble building forms?
Are you having trouble building reports?

I have databases for our boat dealerships on Access but like KCWolfman said I can't really give it to. Personally you just basically play around with it that is what I did and I got it pretty easy.

Like I said, I need an example to go from. I am Access illiterate. I was going to track basketball stats of the Iowa Hawkeyes. Keeping it pretty generic. I was going to track PPG, RPG, and APG. Other than that, I am not really sure what correlates with what in regards to tables, queries, forms and reports. As I said, I am clueless.

That is a breeze.

Again use your wizards for each of the four below

1. Build tables
2. Build queries
3. Build forms
4. Build reports

Go to tables and select "Create table by using wizard"
Select Employees
Select Last Name
Select First Name
Click Next
Change the title to Players
Skip relationships for now
Select enter data directly in table
Go to the fields and enter the first and last name of all the players
Close, save as players
Now create a table using design view
for the first field name enter "Last Name"
for the data type, use Lookup Wizard
Leave it at "I want the lookup column"
Click next
Select your table
Click next
Select last name
Click next
click next again (sort is not required right now)
Click finish
You will get a message saying the table relationships must be saved. Click yes
Save the table name as Iowa BBall Stats
Do not define a primary key

for the next field enter "First Name"
Repeat the bolded section above selecting first name instead of last name
Enter each individual stat as a field name
Select data type as Number for each stat
Change the format to general number
Change your decimal places to 2
go to the next stat

Your tables are done

Now click on queries
Much quicker here
Select Create Query by using Wizard
Find your table named Iowa BBall Stats
Click on the double arrows to send all fields over ">>"
Click on next
Click on finish
Click on the lower X in the upper right hand corner to close the query only

Your query is done

Now click on forms
Click on Create Form by Using Wizard
Find your query (DO NOT USE THE TABLE!!!)
Use the double arrows to shove all fields over
Click on next
select columnar
click on finish
Select your player from the drop down arrow
Enter all his stats in the corresponding boxes
Click on the lower x in the upper right hand corner to close the forms only.

Your forms are done

Click on Reports
Click on Create Report Using Wizard.
Follow the prompts and your report will be complete.

Open the report when complete and print

Good luck

KCWolfman made that whole post to throw you off. He knows nothing of what he speaks.

If you want to know about something like bows and arrows then drop him a note. He will give you all the info you will ever need.

KCWolfman...

So when you say, "enter each individual stat as a field name." Where do I enter that at? In Table one? Or under the Players table? Or do I create another table to put my stats in?

1. Are you trying to track the team's stats or the player's stats?
2. Do you need to be able to keep the stats by game?
3. Do you need to keep info on the games themselves?
4. Are there any requirements for this project? Minimum number of tables, tables must be relational, etc?
