Some of us believed that we had a slight chance to win yesterday but we would have to play flawless football. Most of us didn't give the Chiefs a snowball's chance in hell of winning. Some even stated that it would be UGLY and a blowout in Indy's favor.

1. How many of you are pleasantly surprised that we hung in there for 3 quarters?

2. Do you think we have a shot at a wildcard this year?

I'm still optimistic. Call it myopic if you wish but this Chief squad isn't going to put up a losing season. Hang in there.

Bob Dole thought KC would win, so is not at all "pleasantly surprised" that we hung in for 3 quarters.

And if Martha Raye continues to call plays like the crap he rolled out yesterday, Bob Dole thinks we might finally get that perfect season (0-16).

(On a brighter note: Bob Dole liked Moreau and Morris...)

There is no way they should have lost their home opener against the Colts, who are not a strong road team. After that game, I don't foresee a winning season.

1. I was. I predicted 31-17, which wasn't far off from 27-14, but I didn't feel so bad a bout the outcome. I saw a team that was making a lot of mistakes and I attribute that to our preseason. We should have given the players a chance to play together and get in synch with one another (ie. Morris starting instead of Rison, Warfield instead of Dishman, Dennis playing ahead of Gray, etc.). Our DBs looked like they hadn't played together long (which they hadn't). Our play calling was horrible. Despite all this, we we're tied going into the 4th, and the game was pretty much decided on an INT.

2. Hmmm. If there IS a wildcard in the West, definitely. I think the only playoff team in the West might be the division winner, however. Buffalo, Indianapolis, and Tennessee look strong. Jacksonville and Baltimore are good teams with 6 games on their schedule that are hard to lose.

My opinion is that:

Coaches do not get their act together 12 to 14 losses are possible.

Coaches get act together, promote Sly, actually feature Richardson, play tight defense instead of this slack a$$ coverage we could get 9 wins. Do not know if that will get a playoff spot.

I had predicted 27-21 so things went pretty much like I hoped they would. I could see an Indy blowout happening though, so I was pretty happy with the game in general. I was definitely satisfied, if not surprised.

I think the Chiefs still have a chance in the division. If Denver don't run through their schedule, KC is right in it. From what I have gathered SD and Oakland both tried to lose, and Seattle are showing rebuilding signs as expected. If Gun can gameplan for division opponents we have a shot at the title. It might be remote, but it's still possible. I can't see a WC coming from the West.

I agree with everyone about no wildcard from the AFC West, so with our schedule, we have to win all 4 at home, and at least 1 or 2 on the road, within our division. Given the strength of our schedule, if we would then make the playoffs, we could be a very tough team. Realistically though, don't think it will happen.

There's no way we lose 12-14 games. I'd be surprised if we lost more than 9. I know that's bad too, but it's worst case scenario.

Did anyone else notice the huge difference in play calling after the first 3 or 4 series? I believe that Gunny had a call upstairs and told Jimmy that we did have players available other than the ones behind the QB.

I enjoyed the game yesterday. I would have loved a win, and believe that with better coaching, caught passes, and a little luck we would have.

Russ,

I think they were trying to establish the run yesterday in the first few series to setup the P-A-P. Of course, we've tried that for years and the Colts knew it was coming. For once, please mix it up. There is nothing worse than a pig-headed coach resistant to change.... Didn't we all learn that with Marty?

I was pleasantly surprised that KC was able to hang in and play the Colts so well. The Colts have studs at all 4 skill positions (QB, RB, WR, TE) and they continue to gel in just their third year playing together. On the other hand, KC was starting a lot of new players, some rookies, and a personal lineup that has never played together before. I think those of you who think KC should've won this game are not being very realistic. I was impressed how hard the guys played and am more optimistic about the season than before. This is not the Chiefs of the '90's and despite what the people at 1 Arrowhead Drive are saying we are rebuilding.

AZChief,
Well stated! I agree with everything except the rebuilding part. Rebuilding is an awfully strong word that I don't believe applies in KC's case. Traditionally, rebuilding is a 2-3 year process that literally strips the team's core positions, replacing them with youth and Free Agents. We aren't seeing that in KC and we won't.

My high school track team won 9 conference championships in 10 years and nearly always had a strong showing at State. We used to have a saying, "We don't rebuild, we RELOAD!" I think we have the talent on the team to be competitive, we are RELOADING!

I fully expected the CHIEFS to lose & I picked them to in the weekly picks.

The game was closer than I expected for three quarters.....Several areas can be improved upon and I believe that the CHIEFS can make the playoffs.

Phil,
I was one of the ones that said it would be UGLY and it was. It was UGLY because of all the dropped balls, and Raye's game plan. No, I don't believe that the Chiefs have a shot at the Wild Card as long as Jimmy Raye is calling the plays. The offense is HORRIBLE (again) and our once reliable defense can't save us from our offense this year. The AFC has improved and the Chiefs are not one of the top 6 teams in the conference. However, I think we are good enough to COMPETE and rebuild at the same time. The ONLY way the Chiefs make the playoffs is if they win the West which will be easier than getting in as a Wild Card IMHO - but then there's still the Jimmy Raye factor !

1) I was glad we hung in there.
2) The coaching stinks.
3) The team was not prepared.
4) We can't be a wildcard because the other divisions (AFC East and Central) have stronger teams.
5) We have to win the division outright. Which I think will be very difficult for us to do with this coaching.
