I have no idea why, but I'm inclined to agree.

Well, to be fair, you're asking a different question.
My question was "is the AFC West the toughest division in football?" Your question is "why is the AFC West the toughest?" And this is going to seem like a fallacious answer, but it's because the AFC West is tough. With occasional exceptions, every team in the division is led by smart management who understand they have to build a very strong team to compete. (The Raiders had this for many years until the meltdown after their Super Bowl a few years ago.) Every now and then a team will falter, but this division sports three teams that have been to the Super Bowl in the last decade, and the one team in the AFC West that hasn't been to the Super Bowl in the last ten years twice led the league with a 13-3 record. No other division has that kind of across-the-board excellence, and that's why every team in the AFC West has to keep top-notch talent just to remain competitive. |

The AFC West is tough because the Chiefs, Raiders, Broncos & Chargers basically hate each other & will do anything to win against each other which in turn makes their teams stronger therefore the division is tougher.

Having followed the Chiefs from the start I know all the reasons to hate the donks and the faiders, but I never disliked the Seahawks or the Chargers. |
