I always use the caveat IF GREEN STAYS HEALTHY...
Assuming he does, we're a lot better off. We have a head coach qualified to be a head coach. I liked Gun, but I also like my cat, and neither should be coaching a professional football team. We are finally, mercifully stoogless - the last vestiges of Marty have been swept away. We have a leader at the QB position - whatever he loses by comparison to Smelvis in arm strength he'll more than make up for in brains, balls and character. We finally have a quality RB in Holmes, and have dumped not only the idea of RBBC, but also its most useless member, Bennett (God I despise that guy  ) With this in mind, and Green at the helm, we have the potential for an explosive offense more powerful than any I can remember here. The defense won't be great, but it will be better. Can't see it getting much worse. Again, ditching Marty's little piece of shit, clueless, tag-along brother was the best thing that could have happened to the defense (I will still miss Hasty, though). No more Chester. Robison should show an immediate improvement. Ditto on special teams. I'm convinced that if Stock tried to walk and chew gum, he'd fall over. Horne should bring us the return game we've so sorely missed. The Chiefs seem to quit last year. Between Girlbac's whining and the horrible coaching, I can understand how it would be difficult to stay motivated. This will not be the case in 2001. I say we're a playoff team. I'm not saying the SB-word, but I think we'll do some damage. And its about fuckin time. |

You know, I have every reason to be optimistic. Then again I have every reason to be just as pessimistic. But at least we'll be better coached. Every year is different and there's bound to be a couple of suprise teams this year. Which one of you thought St. Louie had a chance of making the playoffs much less winning the SB two years ago? I don't see why the Chiefs can't be one of those suprise teams! :)

I think it would be a combination of all the new aspects. With Green coming in fresh, they will need someone like Gonzalez to step up into that leadership role until Green is comfortable.

Coaching, coaching, coaching.
We are better simply through the subtraction of Gunther and his stooges. Special teams play and defense will have to be an integral part also.

I agree with the combination theory, there are multiple reasons why we will be a better team this year. I also think the one good thing Gunther did was starting so many rookies last year. This will be a big benefit to us this year, those guys having some playing experience under their belt.
My gut feeling tells me that this Chiefs team will actually play like a team this year...you can build the best team in the world on paper - remember Washington - but if the chemistry isn't there, you're not going very far. |

I'm still cynical about the offseason moves, and the impact that they will have, so my vote goes to Dan Strasynski.

Last year we were heading to playoff berth. But when you beat teams you should lose to (Donkos & Rambos) and lose to teams you should clobber (can you say SD and Atlanta?) anyone with a football IQ above 10 would see it was obviously the coaching. Peterson's Shott replacement of Gun/Grbac over Saunders/Gannon has to be his worse decision with the Chiefs. Add the special teams changes via punter & returner---for those reasons alone we should be better than last year. Coaching will give us 4 more wins this year. If the O gets it's chemistry early we should surprise. 1 thing is guaranteed: we'll sweep the Chargers and will have the quick-strike ability to counter LaTamionsenrunningback's multiple carries. If our O gets on track for opening day we should put the Faiders back in their Chiefsfunk and go 10-6.
