Dick Vermeil vs Herm Edwards

Dick Vermeil in KC 5 years. 1 playoff game
Herm Edwards 1 year 1 playoff game
( 4 playoff berths in 6 years coaching)

just relax. give the guy a chance. 9-7 playoff year with a team that needs 2 Offensive Tackles, 2 Defensive Tackles, and a linebacker.

Vermeil cried a lot and lived off the miracle that dropped in his lap in St.Louis.

DV was the head coach in 2 SB's won 1

Herm hasn't won more than 10 regular season games in 1 season and has never been the head coach of a SB team.

I am not saying I miss DV but DV took over for a Gunther led team that was in disarray. Herm has taken over for both Bill Parcells and DV, 2 HOF coaches.

Well, Herms cupboard wasnt as bare when he got here as DV's was when he arrived.

On the other hand, Herm accomplished in 1 year what DV did in 5.

Yet it was mostly with DV players, so in a tight finish i will have to say DV.

So Parcells was a great coach once ( who btw has never won a playoff game without Belichick) but that doesnt mean he great today.

Vermeil was a very good coach. But in KC he took the Chiefs to 1 playoff game in 5 years. Edwards has matched that in his first year.

Why doesnt Edwards get 5 years? Can he have, maybe 2?

I only saw 3 play-off games last Saturday and the Chiefs weren't in one I don't care what the newpapers and radio talkshows try to tell me.

Last year we went 10-6 and I think we were like the 9th or 10th team in NFL history to ever go 10-6 and miss the playoffs. It was a fluke basically that we didn't get in.

Remember basically the same guys on this team this year and we went 9-7 and lucked our way into the playoffs.

DV was and is a great coach and when Herm coaches a team in the SB then come back to me and compare them.

Not true. The 2000 Chiefs while finishing a disappointing 7-9, lost several close games and finished ranked #8 overall in total offense and #20 in total defense. The passing offense was the 5th best in the NFL. DV comes in and institues Ramifization, drops to 6-10 and 8-8, and ignores the decline of the D while building on O which was already very strong.

Herm is on the right track if he just realizes that DV built a monster that threatened every team in the NFL. While Herm may not field those top offenses, he hoepfully realizes that a high powered offense is at least 50% of the equation in building a championship team.
