IPod help

I'm not sure if this is possible or not, but thought I might check with some of my fellow Chiefs fans.

Is there a way to take songs off of an IPod and put them in a music library on the computer or in the ITunes library. The short of it is this...I bought my dad an IPod for Christmas and I'd like to take some of the songs I have on mine and load them on his. Keep in mind, the large majority of music on my IPod was burned from all of the CD's I own.

Anyone know if the transfer is possible? If it is, I'm having one heck of a time getting it to work.

Thanks in advance

not thread crapping here, but this is the reason i don't like iPods. it's not the hip factor. it's not the cost.

it's the fact that you can't just plug it into your computer via usb and treat it like a flash drive. drives me f**king crazy.

As far as I know.....no.

You basically have to hook up your Dad's iPod on your computer and then move the songs over that way.

I could be wrong though.

Like these guys said, there are 3rd party apps that let you do this, but the simplest thing to do, IMO, if you can, is to copy your music library from your hard drive to your dad's. If you've just got a little bit of music that he wants, you can use a USB flash drive or if that's not big enough you can use an external hard drive.

Here's the thing, I don't keep any of my music files on my computer after I load them onto my IPod. I delete them from the music library on my computer. So essentially, the only trace of the music files is on my IPod.

That being said, I would probably have to then go through the 3rd party apps, right?

Thanks to those to answered me on this subject!

Yes. Either that or, depending on how much music we're talking about, you could take your CD's to his house and rip them to his computer.

Why do you delete your ripped music?

That's really, really, REALLY stupid. Don't take that the wrong way, btw.

You should absolutely keep a backup of everything, especially music. I have 3 backups of all my information. And it really paid off when my last hard drive shit the bed. I especially wouldn't rely on a portable thing like an iPod not to fail, because it WILL fail eventually and then you'll be SOL when you lose all your music.

But an external HD. They're cheap. And it'll hold all your music. And your important files.
