***The official Battle Rap thread***

This is probably a long shot, but does anyone here watch rap battles at all? I'm guessing 98%-100% of members haven't watched them at all.

I know a rapper who battles in GrindTime (Largest current battle league in US) and that's how I got into watching them. I've always liked rap, and I really enjoy watching battles when they come out, but I'm not sure if liking rap/hip hop has all that much to do with it. The creativity/talent some battlers have and use is amazing to me. I'll put a few of my favorites below.

I'm hoping someone else here is randomly a battle rap fan because I absolutely love it and enjoy discussing battles. For those who aren't, I'd recommend giving it a try.

The biggest leagues are GrindTime (USA), King of the Dot (Canada) and URL (USA). I have hardly seen any of URL's stuff and it's a different format and I personally don't like it. All leagues put ALL of their battles on YouTube 100% free of charge.

****NSFW language and if you're easily offended by pretty much anything you can imagine someone dissing someone else for do not watch****

My favorite battle ever (If you're going to watch one, I'd recommend this one. Also it's not really 30 minutes, more like 20 because the last 10 minutes is judges talking. Pat Stay is absolutely amazing):

If you don't feel like watching a long video, I'd recommend Pat Stay's 2nd round vs Hollohan - first video, starts at about 8:15.

Pat Stay vs Hollohan

Kid Twist vs Dumbfoundead (A lot of people's favorite ever)

Nocando vs Dizaster

Thesaurus vs Immaculate (3 parts - Part 1 is below)

Rheteric Ramirez vs Dutch Vega (Rheteric is definitely my favorite battler, a lot of people don't like him for some reason but I think he's hilarious - and no he's not the battler I know personally nor is that battler in any of the video's I have linked) -- -- (Video is 2 parts - part 1 is below, part 2 is a lot better though IMO)

Generally speaking battle rap has switched from freestyle to written. All GT and KOTD battles are written and if people show up without writtens and freestyle it's frowned upon. Unless it's a freestyle battle for whatever reason, but I don't even remember the last freestyle battle GT/KOTD battlers have had, it's been a while I'm pretty sure. I think written battles are way better because it's still definitely not easy to be great or even really good, and it adds to the creativity of it and makes for far more entertaining battles.

Madness and Iron Sol are both great. The guy I know personally (Japanese Jesus) is battling Madness at a Texas Battle League event in Austin TX in a few months at SXSW (South by Southwest - big music festival type thing).

I didn't know that they wanted them to be written. I just watched that first vid you posted and then watched The Saurus vs Hollohan, which I should have watched first....the vid in the OP makes much more sense now.

Well yeah, and actually if you watched all of Hollohan's KOTD battles it'd help make Pat Stay/Hollohan make total sense, but to ask a bunch of CP'ers to watch 3 hours of battle rap is a bit extreme.

I'm pretty sure Phran is from Houston, and he's a really good air guitar artist as well from what I hear. He's buddies with Jap Jesus so I know a bit about him.
