Your latest police state update (with video)

My favorite part: the cop yelling for the perp to get on the ground after being shot 3 times.

I like their chances on a wrongful death suit.

Not really sure what to think about that. Looked uneccesary( I know I cant spell worth a shit) to me though.

On the other hand, he shouldn't be holding a golf club at them like he's about to swing for the fences.

6 seconds from the kick in of the door to the shots being fired. The guy was probably dead asleep, grabbed the first thing next to the nightstand and was trying to process what the heck was going on when the bullets hit him.

My take is that we really have no clue what that officer had going through his head or what his initial reaction was when the lights popped on. I suppose given his actions, the officer was startled, felt threatened and reacted with shots. Had he reacted 5 seconds slower, he might have not shot the guy and this wouldn't be a story. But he (the officer) also might have been shot and killed by hesitating and the only reporting would have been a small blurb in the local Utah news.

If you can't tell a gun from a golf club, maybe you shouldn't be a cop.

Under the right circumstances, a golf club can be a deadly weapon.

In that scenario, however, given the distance between the officers and the perp and their protection (riot shield, flack jackets, helmets), the threat of death or serious bodily injury seems unlikely.

Like I said, we don't know exactly what the cop saw or what was in his mind. The lights popped on and the victim was standing less than 10 feet from the first officer, so it's not unrealistic to think the officer saw something other than a golf club.

Well, they found a small personal amount of pot and meth on the guy, so I guess it was all worth it in the end.

My take, unlike the last police shooting posted here, is that this guy was never given a chance to follow directions.

"POLICE! SEARCH WARRANT!"

Bang, bang, bang.

"GET ON THE GROUND!"

At the very least, the person in charge of the case (I believe it is the Sgt who fired the shots) should be suspended/punished for leading an unnecessary raid. After all, he took a man's life based on bad information.
