Unfortunately that is about the rate for a well bred Bully. When I got mine I spent a lot of time at dog shows/bulldogs shows and got to know the breeders. A good breeder of bulldogs won't just sell to anyone out of the blue usually. With all the health problems a bulldog can have it really is the best idea to stick with a well known breeder that has good AKC lines, because you are paying for the healthy genetics.
Also be aware that bulldogs are a lot of work, keep their wrinkles clean, their ass wiped and keep them cool, they over heat really easily. That being said they are one of the best dog breeds around. Oh and the avg lifespan for them is about 8 years. |

My buddy's Mom bred them for years (now retired). She is still in contact with other breeders. Between the artificial insemination and C section, that price is reasonable.

Heh bulldogs can't really inseminate on their own and the puppies heads are to big to birth normally.

I don't know what I'm talking about when it comes to dogs, but I would never pay that much for a dog.

I got mine in s. calif, and 2500 is about what I paid, of course he was from one of the top dogs in the country. If you got to know the breeders you could probably pick up a good line bulldog that wasn't show quality for less, but not thousands less.

Been bred to have such big heads and stuff now they are like turkeys with big breasts, can't really breed on their own and the babies won't fit out the way they are supposed to come out. |

If looking for a good doggy breeder I'm sure there are several here that would volunteer their time.
Don't count on them sticking around for the c-section part though...........it was left open......sorry. I really didn't know that about bulldogs, but can maybe understand now why they're do damn expensive. Does AKC have any rules about AI or C section? Just curious because I know they don't allow that in thoroughbred horse breeding. |

I remember a few years ago I was in NC and discovered you could find a well bred English Bulldog for less than $500. I wanted to buy a dozen of them and bring them back to Seattle. I would've made a killing.

Can I ask some stupid questions:
1. why would anyone pay $2,500 for a dog? 2. why would anyone pay $2,500 for a dog that isn't likely to live a decade? 3. why has anyone designed a dog breed that can't be birthed normally? Look, I love pets, but this is completely insane. Aren't there about a million dog breeds that can, you know, breed normally? |
