It would have depended on his season. Heading into 2010 everybody thought Locker would be #1 and then Newton basically came out of nowhere. A tremendous year and Clausen might have skyrocketed. A bad year...

Holy shit...
Really? Okay, let's get this straight: Clausen was a product of a borderline maniacal father who desperately wanted one of his sons to be the next Joe Montana. He was spoon fed to think he was a NFL QB from Day One. And that will get you through high school pretty easy, especially considering that from his HS 13 guys got D1 scholarships. He arrived at ND in a limo, proceeded to put up huge numbers under a system that favored QB numbers and was throwing to and protect by (offensive line) guys that were considered NFL caliber players. After Weis left, do you here much about ND and it's fantastic pro style offense and the ridiculous numbers put up by it's QB and WRs? System guy that had serious flaws in his physical makeup (not very athletic, incredibly small hands, not a strong arm) as well as his personality (entitlement and all around douchey attitude as well as posing for pics with a bunch of guys wearing Euro-man bikinis *cough*gay*cough*). And yet, after dealing with the multitude of ass clowns who don't know shit who wanted Clausen in the top ten last year, we still get this post? Really? |

Really. If Clausen was in this years draft and he just finished with a 68% completion percentage and 28 TDs to 4 picks in a pro-style system, all of the draft gurus would have him as the top QB in the class. Good enough arm, pro-style, good completion %, good TD to INT ratio, no arrests, no cocaine abuse, no one year wonder, etc. They'd be salivating over him.

I heard thier GM talking about how the teams picking late all have QB's and the teams picking early do not. The pundits all seem to think Carolina snags a QB number 1 overall rather than have "Pickles" shit his pants another season.

Clausen is still what he was last year - a polished guy with leadership questions and an Eli Manning upside. Gabbert represents a Ben Roethlisberger upside. Cam Newton represents Randall Cunningham or even Steve Young. NFL Teams salivate over ceiling. I agree - Clausen would be in the 2nd tier with guys like Locker and Mallett. I think he would've been at the top of the 2nd tier, but 2nd tier nontheless.
