Laremy Tunsil wants to bee highest paid LT
Got to imagine that this is a play to get the hell out of Houston.
Laremy Tunsil wants to be the highest-paid tackle in the NFL Texans left tackle Laremy Tunsil has shared one of his plans for the offseason. The 2023 season is the final one covered by Tunsil’s current contract and he told DJ Bien-Amie of ESPN.com that he wants to negotiate a new deal with Houston this offseason. Tunsil also shared his desire to see that contract make him the highest-paid tackle in the league. “I don’t know who’s the highest right now, maybe Trent [Williams] at $23 [million], but I want to top that,” Tunsil said. “Always want to reset the market. Perfect opportunity to reset the market. Everything is lining up as far as my contract to how I’m playing. Everything lining up perfectly.” Williams’ $23,010,000 average annual salary is the best in the league. Tunsil had an average annual salary of $22 million in the three-year extension he signed with the Texans in 2020. Tunsil has a non-guaranteed base salary of $18.5 million next season and a cap hit of over $35 million. |

It's funny that he doesn't know what the top pay is, but thinks he deserves more. The Texans should tell him that the top pay is $450,000.

I’m trying to understand why this would change anything? Of course he wants to be paid like the top dog. I mean, Orlando Brown wants to be paid like the top dog for ****’s sake. At least Tunsil can legitimize that.

Now how do you swing that? Ii don't know. Not keen on giving up a lot of draft capital, but who knows maybe you tag and trade OBJ to Houston as part of the deal. |

If we had Tunsil on this roster asking to re-set the market, I'd gladly attempt to oblige him.
He's the style of player we need here. He's a credible run blocker and an ELITE pass protector. He's a perfect fit here. When I say the Chiefs can be mediocre OR expensive at LT, that's the kind of move I'm completely fine with. You find a way to retain someone like Tunsil; he's a 6+ year cornerstone LT for a passing offense. Orlando Brown will make 90% (or better) of what Tunsil gets and won't give you 70% of his value to this offense.

Sure he wants to be the highest paid LT in the NFL. I want Salma Hayek and Charlize Theron to use me as a boytoy, too.
Nice, but not at a $35M cap hit. |
