The Bears have gone full reerun.

Cutler meeting with offensive coordinator candidates
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on January 15, 2010 11:15 AM ET

With Pete Carroll involved in G.M. interviews, it's fair to wonder if he's the one voice that matters in Seattle.

A similar dynamic may be playing out in Chicago, but the voice belongs to a player.

Bears G.M. Jerry Angelo confirmed that Jay Cutler is a key part of the interview process as the Bears search for an offensive coordinator.

"We've involved Jay, and we'd like to have him meet with [all] the candidates," Angelo said. "He understands the whole process, and he knows we want him involved. This is not the first time we've involved a player. This isn't new to us."

Cutler flew in town to meet with Ken Zampese and is expected to offer his thoughts on other candidates. Cutler was reportedly disappointed the team couldn't snare his old coach Jeremy Bates.

We've got mixed feelings here. The ability to work with Cutler and play to his strengths is one of the biggest components of the Bears job.

But if Cutler truly has sway in who gets the gig, it sounds like the inmates are running the asylum.

Interesting that they attack Cutler, yet when the Steelers were planning to fire Bruce Arians, to the point that it was reported by several media outlets, Ben Roethlisberger stepped in and saved his job.

I don't see what the big deal is.

I guess it just depends on you POV. I've always found it to be in poor form to get players involved with anything other than playing. Organizational issues are for management. The two, imo, shouldn't be crossed. It sets a precedent that will most likely have a very slippery slope. jmho

Yeah, undermining the OC's authority is a great way to build solid relationships in an organization.

Don't like either situation. When a player has that kind of influence, the franchise has a problem. I've read that Ben has a LOT of influence on coaching and personnel decisions. Not a good situation in my book. It diminishes the legitimacy of the coaching staff & FO. Ben has the huge contract and has won a SB, so he has more credibility the Butt-ler. But still, he's the QB...not the GM. Shouldn't the GM & HC be able to discern whether a potential OC & his philosophy will "fit" with their QB?

People complain about Matt Cassel...can you imagine if KC would have given up what the Bears gave up for Cutler...and he performed like Cutler did this season.

When you're paying the guy as much money as you are, and he's such a douchey prima donna, I think it's in your best interest to find someone that makes him happy. I don't agree with it, but it's what needs to be done to make the investment not such a flush of the toilet.

So they can't decide on an OC and Cutler is going to de-douche the solution.

Makes sense, I guess.

The Chiefs invested a lot of money in Tyson Jackson. Do you want him calling the shots on DC?
