Well I had a life or death experience this AM

At least it felt like one! As some of you might already know I own an armored car service, and I drive one of the trucks myself. Had a co-worker/employee call in sick today (always 2 guys on a truck) and I just so happened to be using our oldest truck which is now just a backup.

To make a long story short, I went to the back of the truck (closed off from the front) to get some change, when I realized the boxes had slid up towards the front. So, I climb into the truck to grab it and the door shuts. No big deal right, I can just open it from the inside? Wrong. Like I said this is our oldest truck and I just found out the hard way that you can't get out from the inside. Another problem is my phone was in the front of the truck which I didn't have access to. So there I was locked inside in the pitch black wth no phone, no AC (I live in Key West where it's really ****ing hot!!). I had to bang on the door till somebody finally heard me and I told them to call the police/fire department to get me out.

I waited all together about an hour and a half till they finally broke into the front of the truck to get the key out of the ignition and let me out the back. This was difficult and something I wasn't even sure they could pull off so (relatively) fast with this being an armored vehicle.

If I would've been at one of my stops where there isn't a lot of people walking by, I could've easily cooked in there all day.

You should always carry a can opener or bazooka for situations like this.

Glad you're okay, though. I see warnings about leaving your pets in armored cars all the time.

Isn't there a fail-safe where, if you don't get to a scheduled checkpoint in time the police are called? If not, there should be.

We only operate in the Florida Keys where there honestly just isn't any concern for crime, so all I have is a GPS on all my trucks so I can track them myself.

In the 55 years my family has had this business we've never once had an attempted robbery or anything like that. It's a very safe place to own a business like this.

So are the trucks airtight like a refrigerator? Would you have eventually suffocated or would you have simply baked?

No, not airtight so I wouldn't have suffocated, but yes I would've eventually baked. The heat was unreal.
