For the Mass Effect players....

So, I want to play Mass Effect 2.

But, should I play the first one, finish that, then go onto ME2?

Some have said I should bypass ME1 entirely and start with ME2 as it is much better.

Thought I'd ask here.

Thanks

They advertised it as a game that helps if you play the first one but its not necessary.

I didnt play the first one and played the 2nd one. I was a tad lost at times but youll get by without playing the first one.

The only advantage is if you complete the first one then it transfers some things to your character in the second game. I used a fresh new character for Mass Effect 2 and it was still the best game I have played on 360, so I would say you can safely just start with the second game.

They made some major improvements in the second game. The biggest improvement for me was the side missions. In the first game, the side missions were all exactly the same: explore planet, find a couple things, then go into a building and kill some baddies (and the building was the same layout in every side mission). In the second game, every side mission is completely unique, which basically doubles the number of missions you can complete and it doesn't get close to repetitive.

The gameplay in the second one is better, but the first one has a superior story and is still a great game. Play them both.

The first one sets up the universe and the story is absolutely EPIC. I have no idea how someone can tell you to skip the first one. IMO, it's an absolute must for complete enjoyment.

I'd play the first. If you started with the second one, decided you liked it, then went back to play the first it wouldn't be nearly as good. After playing the second one, the flaws in the first stand out like a sore thumb. Play the first one first.

I just picked up ME1 for $5 and ME2 for $19, so I am good to go.

Now, classes.....

What say you?
Adept looks pretty interesting.

Suggestions and input?

Thx

Really depends on what you want to do, and there's some drastic differences in how the classes play from ME1 to ME2. So far I've tended to migrate more towards the technical classes, Engineer and Infiltrator, but I know a lot of people enjoy the Adept and Vanguard. Although my favorite class so far has probably been Sentinel, which is a mix of technical and biotic. My least favorite is Soldier, because just swapping between weapon types with no cool techy/biotic skills has always seemed kind of boring to me.

I'm currently working on an Adept run all the way through both games, although I'm taking my time. I've finished both of them as a Sentinel and Infiltrator prior to now.

And although I say soldier is my least favorite, I've enjoyed playing every class. You really can't go wrong...

I am about 12 hours into the game.
How many hours is the run through? Think I heard something about 30+ hours?

And how about a run through of ME2?

Right now, running through as an Adept. Pretty cool. Wish I could use more than just a pistol though.

Do a walk-through instead. Read every codex entry, explore every corner and do every quest. Milk that game for all it's worth because it's worth a lot. I think the first time, it took me about 45 hours to do it. I could be wrong though.

Yeah, it took me around 45 or 50 as well. 75 or so grand total when I ran it through a second time to reach the level cap.

You'll unlock the ability to use other weapons/skills by killing enemies with that weapon or skill - that's the achievement system in the first game. And you can actually USE any weapon you want in the first game, just switch to it. You won't have any skill, but you can still fire it, and it will still work to unlock the weapon skills.

(I'm playing an adept in ME1 right now that has assault rifle skill...)
