Court date for traffic ticket
So a few weeks ago I got pulled over for speeding here in KC. When the officer asked to see my proof of insurance, I couldn't find a current copy...though I did have one from previous months. He gave me the speeding ticket (which is fine...I was speeding) and a ticket for no proof of insurance. He told me that all I needed to do was send in proof of current insurance when I received the ticket in the mail, and they would wipe it out.
As it turns out, it's not that simple. After talking to someone from the online KC court system info dept, I learned that I actually have to set a court date and appear in court. I have the proof of insurance, so that's not a problem. What I'm wondering is, do I need a lawyer? Do I need documentation other than the proof of insurance? Has anyone ever dealt with this? Thanks for any help. |
