Fred Taylor cited for disorderly conduct

Wright on Jags

http://news.jacksonville.com/wrighto...ylor-arrested/

« Jimmy Smith arrested for DUI Fred Taylor (not) arrested
Instead of an arrest, it appears Jags RB Fred Taylor was basically ticketed for disorderly conduct Saturday outside a Miami Beach nightclub, based on discussions with Taylor, Miami Beach police and his attorney, Adam Swickle.

“It’s nothing more than a ticket, just like if you were pulled over for speeding or pulled over with a problem with your license and they give you a date and a time and a document to appear,” Swickle said. “He was never formally arrested, never booked, didn’t post a bond and he has not been charged with anything. We’re pretty confident obviously that he won’t be charged with anything.I can tell you, there is no way he could’ve been arrested because he never would have been given a notice to appear.”

We’re still in the process of piecing together all the details. Check out www.Jacksonville.com and tomorrow’s Florida Times-Union for more information

Jaguars running back Fred Taylor was charged with disorderly conduct outside of Club Cristal nightclub in Miami Beach nightclub early Saturday.

Taylor agreed to appear in court at a future date, according to detective Juan Sanchez, a spokesman for the Miami Beach Police Department. He was not taken to jail.

Sanchez told the Times-Union Saturday Taylor was arrested about 4 a.m., but said he had no other details. The Miami Beach Police Department’s record division is closed until Tuesday for the Labor Day holiday.

Jaguars spokesman Dan Edwards said the team declined to comment.

Taylor is the Jaguars’ starting tailback and team’s all-time leading rusher. In an interview with the Times-Union last week, Taylor attributed his continued high level of play to improved diet and not partying as much as he did earlier in his career.

In another interview last year, Taylor said he tells the team’s younger players to “do something to stay off the streets late at night, whether it’s read a book or get a girlfriend, whatever it might be.”
The Jaguars open their season next Sunday at Tennessee.

Former Jaguars receiver Smith arrested
By MATT COLEMAN
The Times-Union

Former Jacksonville Jaguars standout Jimmy Smith was arrested Friday on a drunken driving charge during a DUI checkpoint with an open container of beer and marijuana in his car, according to authorities.

He was also charged with open container and possession of marijuana less than 20 grams, both misdemeanors.

Smith, 39, said he would not comment on any details of the arrest, but he thanked the community for its support.

“I’m dealing with a very difficult, very personal issue and I know this is not the solution,” Smith told the Times-Union during a phone interview Saturday. “Everybody has issues. My issues are just magnified.”

Officers stopped Smith’s car about 10:45 p.m. when he tried to drive around a sobriety checkpoint in the 13700 block of McCormick Road. They reported smelling a “strong odor of marijuana” coming from the vehicle and observed marijuana butts in the console, according to the report.

The report said Smith passed a half can of beer to officers as he exited the car. The officers ran Smith through several field sobriety exercises and determined he was impaired.

Smith’s lawyer, Hank Coxe, said his client was released at about 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Coxe said Smith posted $503 bail and was released.

Jaguars spokesman Dan Edwards said the team declined to comment.

Smith, who was given a four-game drug suspension by the NFL at the start of the 2003 season, abruptly retired in May 2006, saying “it’s best to leave on top.” He left the game at age 37 as the NFL’s seventh-leading receiver of all time.

Smith played for the Jaguars from 1995 to 2005 and had 862 career receptions for the team. No other Jacksonville player has reached 500. He also accumulated 12,287 receiving yards, nearly twice as many as Keenan McCardell, the Jags’ No. 2 player in career receiving.

It was well known in Jax for quite a while that Jimmy Smith has issues with drugs. Well I guess that kinda hurts his Hall of Fame votes.

Wasn't that why he was cut from the Cowboys? (Ironic though that may be).
