eMachines
I'm thinking about getting another pc when my tax refund check comes in.
Does anyone have an eMachine? Here's what I'm looking into: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...3A3951%3A41937 |

Many e-machines are total pieces of crap and cannot be upgraded.
You were warned.

If you are going to spend almost $600 on a new computer, dont buy an Emachine. At least go buy a Dell or Gateway. Or heck, have someone build one for you.

They were pretty crappy 4-5 years ago but have come a long way in improving their product and actually have better service for home customers than Dell if you need it.

I just bought an Emachine 2 months ago.
Celeron 2.4 ghz processor. Good . Not really for high end 3d gaming but can play alot of 3d games. This system can play DVD movies. Flat sreen -17 inch. Good. No defects. Hard drive is not the fastest but 60 gb. not bad. Speakers are not loud enough if you like loud mp3 playing. 256 mem. not bad . not great. Got a CDRW drive that can play DVD's . Nice. Don't use it to play directx 3d games. has the built in intel Agp which sucks. Your limited on games. Came with a printer. Ok. not bad. Bought mine for like 700 with rebates and final price was like $369. EXCELLENT VALUE ! Does not come with WinXP installation disk. Real negative here. If you need to reinstall xp then it deletes/formats your disk and you lose all your info. Buy a package of CDRW's and save your important files because XP always screws up eventually. Comes with word Microsoft Money and Works(lesser of Word). Good. Good value ! IF your not a gamer . Get used to Blue Leds. Last edited by warpaint99; 01-30-2005 at 06:59 PM.. |

Emachines aren't bad.. Use the same components as other computers usually.. There isnt a emachine "processor" etc... If you arent into gaming and want to use it for Internet, maybe some business applications, its really not that bad.. I built my own computers, but if you aren't into that, Emachine is a inexpensive option.. Don't listen to the "dell" experts, they are always overpriced in my opinion .. And the great technical support all the way from Thailand, .. Thats a plus!!...

I'm not saying to go Dell rather than eMachines, but after some of the horror stories I've heard about the eMachines non-standard BIOS, I'd be vary wary. |

I'm really not sure what to get. Probably should just stay with HP. This one has been problem free for 2 years...
