Rules for flying American Flag in Yard?

I have always wanted to fly the American flag in my yard. Now that I have my own home, I am ready to do it. I found this site that has all kind of flag etiquette (including some suprosing violations we see all the time) http://www.ushistory.org/betsy/flagetiq.html

But there are a few things I was wanting to know.

Does it matter which side of the yard you mount the pole. I figured the right side would be natural, but I only really have room from trees on the left. Is this appropriate?

Is a street light sufficient lighting? Can I fly my flag 24 hours a day even when raining or snowing.

Thanks for the help and take a look at the site above, it is kind of interesting.

Thanks

I don't think it matters on which side of your house/yard you plan to fly your flag from.

Streetlight would not be sufficient lighting. Install a single electric light to illuminate the flag at night--a light shining on the flag from underneath usually suffices for night-time illumination. If you plan on displaying the flag 24/7, I recommend an "all weather" flag (google and you'll find plenty of resources)...

Interesting. I have a flag outside hanging on a pole attached to a front bedroom window frame. Never thougth about illuminating it. Hmmm, a new project for me.

No you can't fly the flag after dusk. It's okay for rain and snow etc but when it gets dark its suppose to come down. This is an etiquette thing not a law.

Wrong. You may fly the flag 24/7, as long as it's given proper illumimation after dark.
