It might be silly to speculate so early, but it's still fun. Here's an early Fearless Prediction of the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft.

1. Houston Texans - Reggie Bush, RB USC
The signing of David Carr to a long term deal cements Mr. Bush in the top spot.

2. New Orleans Saints - Matt Leinart, QB USC
Does New Orleans go with the potential superstar in Young or the rock-solid passer like Leinart. Leinart is the better choice to win now, which the franchise desperately needs to do.

3. Tennessee Titans - Vince Young, QB Texas
Michael Jordan also went with the third pick, but Leinart isn't Sam Bowie. Tennessee has bigger needs, but can't pass up Young.

4. New York Jets - D'Brickashaw Ferguson, OT Virginia
The Jets need tackle help. After his performances in Senior Bowl practices, Ferguson appears to be a natural fit.

5. Green Bay Packers - A.J. Hawk, LB Ohio State
It'll be between Hawk and NC State's Mario Williams up until the card goes up to the podium. The Packers need help at both linebacker and end in a big way.

6. Oakland Raiders - Haloti Ngata, DT Oregon
The Raiders could use Hawk and might not be able to pass up Williams, but Ngata fills an immediate hole.

7. San Francisco 49ers - Michael Huff, DB Texas
It'll be between Huff and Virginia Tech's Jimmy Williams. They can both play safety or corner and while Williams will have the better combine numbers, Huff is more polished.

8. Buffalo Bills - Jimmy Williams, DB Virginia Tech
The Bills will take whichever one is left between Huff and Williams.

9. Detroit Lions - Mario Williams, DE NC State
Vanderbilt's Jay Cutler appears to be the obvious choice, but the Lions already got burned by drafting a marginal quarterback prospect way too high when they took Joey Harrington. If Williams is still on the board, which he likely won't be, the Lions will be happy.

10. Arizona Cardinals - Jay Cutler, QB Vanderbilt
Don't let the new Kurt Warner contract fool you; the Cardinals desperately need a quarterback to build around. If Cutler is gone, they'll be all over one of the top running back prospects, most likely DeAngelo Williams of Memphis.

11. St. Louis Rams - Chad Greenway, LB Iowa
Maryland TE Vernon Davis will be appealing, but the speed and athleticism of Greenway fits the Rams perfectly.

12. Cleveland Browns - Tamba Hali, DE Penn State
This might be a bit of a reach taking Hali this high with so many other good prospects on the board, but the Browns need help on the defensive front.

13. Baltimore Ravens - DeAngelo Williams, RB Memphis
The Ravens will have their pick of several great backs. USC's LenDale White might be the best fit, Minnesota's Laurence Maroney adds more speed to the mix, and Williams adds a nice change of pace to Jamal Lewis.

14. Philadelphia Eagles - Vernon Davis, TE Maryland
Even though tight end isn't a pressing problem, the Eagles need as many good targets as they can get to help out Donovan McNabb.

15. Atlanta Falcons - Winston Justice, OT USC
There can't be enough help to protect Michael Vick.

16. Miami Dolphins - Santonio Holmes, WR Ohio State
The Dolphins won't get their franchise quarterback here, but they could use another target to help out whoever is under center next year.

17. Minnesota Vikings - LenDale White, RB USC
Taking Maroney might be an option knowing how good he is on the Dome turf, but White gives the Vikings the type of back they haven't had in a long time.

18. Dallas Cowboys - Marcus McNeill, OT Auburn
The Cowboys have to get much better up front. They'd like Justice to fall here, but will still be happy with the mammoth Auburn star.

19. San Diego Chargers - Sinorice Moss, WR Miami
The Chargers need a young playmaking receiver to help out Drew Brees and Antonio Gates. They'll get their pick of the lot.

20. Kansas City Chiefs - Tye Hill, CB Clemson
The Chiefs desperately need a receiver and will think hard about Florida's Chad Jackson and/or Moss if he falls, but they also need a solid corner. Hill's speed will be too much to overlook.

21. New England Patriots - Ashton Youboty, CB Ohio State
The Patriots rarely go by the book, but they should end up going with the best corner available.

22. Denver Broncos (from Washington) - Chad Jackson, WR Florida
It makes too much sense. The Broncos will be happy to take Jackson, Moss, and might even think about trading down for any one of a number of a good receivers out there.

23. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Mathias Kiwanuka, DE Boston College
The Bucs could get a steal here. Kiwanuka wasn't out of this world in Senior Bowl practices, but he's still a top prospect who just needs to get a bit stronger.

24. Cincinnati Bengals - Ko Simpson, S South Carolina
It'll either be Simpson or LSU DT Claude Wroten. Georgia TE Leonard Pope could also be an option as draft day draws near..

25. New York Giants - DeMeco Ryans, LB Alabama
Ryans has the talent and leadership skills to be a ten-year pro for the Giants.

26. Chicago Bears - Leonard Pope, TE Georgia
A shut-down corner is a glaring need, but so is a talented tight end. The pedestrian 40 time of UCLA's Marcedes Lewis makes the huge Pope a likely choice.

27. Carolina Panthers - Claude Wroten, DT LSU
The Panthers might think about Maroney and could use a top tight end to fall, but Wroten is too good not to add to the rotation.

28. Jacksonville Jaguars - Bobby Carpenter, LB Ohio State
Once 100% healthy, Carpenter's combine numbers will be strong enough to warrant a first round pick, while his size will make him the more likely pick over Florida State's Ernie Sims.

29. Denver Broncos - Darnell Bing, S USC
After going after a wide receiver with its first pick, Denver will have several good prospects available to fit needs.

30. Indianapolis Colts - Ernie Sims, LB Florida State
The Colts have thrived on getting slightly undersized defensive playmakers who do nothing but play really, really well. Sims' speed will make the improving D even stronger.

31. Seattle Seahawks - Kamerion Wimbley, DE Florida State
Running back could turn into a need in a real hurry if Shaun Alexander goes elsewhere. If he resigns, Seattle will look to boost the defensive line unless it chooses to help the secondary with Ohio State's Donte Whitner.

32. Pittsburgh Steelers - Laurence Maroney, RB Minnesota
He's not The Bus, but he's Willie Parker fast with even more talent. It'll be a ridiculous steal if he falls this far.

I wonder if these people have inside info on Warfield getting cut that we don't.

don't know

remember how pissed they were when he got suspended though. there was talk of cutting him back then.

maybe they just think he's mental and will screw up again.

Hill is very quick and I think he could transition well on the NFL level, but I believe his size will have him slip a little in the draft.

Plus, while he is a known commodity, Jimmy Williams and Michael Huff are the locks at the top 2 CBs in this draft. I think we can do better than Hill at 20.

I think if we're looking that hard at a CB (assuming we cut Warfield) our best option is to trade down and get Cromartie, allowing us to get a DT like Watson or Bunkley in the process.

I sure hope so because I think we still need D-line help in a big way.

Warfield may flake out again, but CB is not our biggest need, IMO. Surtain assures us, we have a quality CB on the roster.

The same can't be said about our DTs in my book.

Sims hasn't proven to be worthy of a starting job.

Dalton is a free agent, who would be a good back-up.

Browning is now a back-up.

Junior is a project.

Wilkerson should be a DE.

I don't know why they continue to say we need a CB first. Don't they see that we have no pass rush. We could draft a CB but unless he can cover for 5-6 seconds it would be a waste.

The only reason I can think of is that they think we're gonna cut Warfield.

Either that, or they're clueless and are basing their picks on reading the numbers at pro-football-reference.com...

Maybe they think that guys the best player on the board at the time. Hey if Cromartie is the best player on the board at our pick then that's fine. I think part of the reason the Chiefs haven't drafted well is they pigeon hole themselves into taking positions of need instead of the best players.

I find it hard to swallow that they think Tye Hill is the BAA when Kiwi and several others are still on the board. Then again, he isn't even the best available corner IMO - they have Youboty going 1 pick after we take Hill.

Yep...I'm absolutely set on us drafting a DT in round one.
