Anybody ever built or raced a Soap Box Derby car ?

Been thinking about getting the grandkids involved in this.

Anybody here ever done this and can shead some light on this venture before I get over the edge ?

Pinewood derby is cheaper, easier, faster, and takes less storage.

I built one once as a kid out of some 2x4s, plywood, wagon wheels and some all-thread. Never entered a contest but had lots of fun with it.

Basically, I used the plywood as a deck, 2x4s and all-thread as axles. For steering, the front 2x4 was bolted to the plywood at center and I used a rope tied to each end of the 2x4 (at the wheels) and steered by pulling on one rope or the other kinda like a horse bridle.

I thought you were going to talk about a horse drawn carriage going down a hill without a horse as your derby car...

I went ahead and did it in paint, not as detailed as if I were to draw out the plans but it should do...

The key to this car is weight placement, since you have to be within a certain weight.. The car is also very aerodynamic for a pinewood car think toboggan or solar power car...

You can add one of those spoilers they sell also..

And **** off if you don't like my paint job...
