Anyone that knows anything about Vista

A friend of mine is having an issue with it and I know nothing about it so maybe someone here can help..

When the screen saver comes up on the PC it makes her computer freeze and go idle until she restarts it...anyone know how to fix this or what it is?

Also if she idles for a long time it auto restarts.

I am going to say, there may be some kind of virus/trogan/spyware/malware in there somewhere. Or sometimes, it could just have a corrupt file and you gotta reformat or reinstall windows. sometimes you may even have to system restore a week or 2 back

Let me look into it a bit deeper and i will reply again, if no one else finds a solution.

Just for now tell her to download something like spybot, adaware, CC registry cleaner and run them.

She did have a virus before and the way the computer guy fixed it was to put vista over the top of XP that she had, it's very weird.

I just did some research and i havent found much info, but the info i did find, was its a hard disk error. She has to reformat i think. Something in the windows files went corrupt.

Something like this happened to me not to long ago. WHen rebooting my computer after the log in screen would just turn black and freeze. I had to do a full reformat. I think thats what she has to do.

I told her this and she said back to me...

yeah! it'll go black, and even disconnect my monitor saying it's no longer compatible.

Ugh.

It takes me about 28 hours to reformat and reload all of my programs.

I recently had a new computer over-nighted and loaded XP3 on it. It's having issues so the manufacturer is telling me I need to install Vista.

Yay! Another 28 hours and a shitload of re-authorizations.

I hate computers!

Vista blows. Install the Windows 7 beta and wait for it to bloom in full.

Well, your case is slightly different then just a normal personal PC though. I would hate to have been in your predicament.
