Electronics Need room speaker answer quickly, please!

My young friends have set up a party tonight in honor of a young man who just received his PHD and will leave us for his job in Alaska. As usual a university clubhouse has been reserved which in the past has had room speakers connectible to a laptop for musical and visual entertainment. Apparently they were not told that the said sound system is out of order temporarily. Now their only recourse is to somehow connect the laptop to a conventional sound system that I was asked to provide. I think we need to connect the laptop to an amplifier and speakers. Is this possible? Are there such connections available? Is a conventional receiver/amplifier even needed?

I told him I will ask the genii of the PC. Please don't let me down.

I don't know the answer to that. How about a 12-inch pianist instead?

Yeah, it's possible. We do it all of the time. You just have to get an adapter to take it from your headphone jack to a 1/4 jack on the board. Do you have time to go to a radio shack or something? You can't do it directly.

While you run your visual to your overhead directly, you just have to run your audio out of your headphones jack with an adapter to 1/4" going into your board. Does that make sense?

Yes, you'll need to connect it through an amp. A laptop won't push hard enough for conventional speakers by itself.

Just head down to an electronics store, bring as many components as you can and have them sell you the right adapters.

Just use a headphone splitter to RCA male, and a regular RCA cable, and then hook to input on amp, or whatever. You can pick them up anywhere that sells audio/video cables
