Blind dumb luck

So I had $11 and some change in my bodog account. It's been sitting there for weeks, and I was bored. Turned on TVG and there was one race left for the night on television. I don't bet horses unless I can watch the race, that's the excitement in it.

So, I look at the odds see there's 3 clear favorites (this doesn't mean shit) and just laid down a quinella, exacta, and trifecta and played those 3 horses. Ideally, for me to win all 3 bets I needed it to come in 4/1,1/4,2 preferrably 4,1,2 for odds purposes.

Race came down 4,1,2. Almost $200 for my $11 in tickets. Had I had enough money in there I already had the $350 winning superfecta ticket boxed in on my screen. It was a $4 bet but I decided to play a quinella and exacta instead. I guess I shouldn't bitch.

Have you ever had just a stupid dumb, lucky moment? What happened?

My team started out 6-0, starting out on a tip-drill luck pass to Brandon Stokley. I thought it was skill but turns out it was luck as my Pro Bowl QB completed 2 passes to Derrick Johnson for over 100 yards and 2 TD's and Jamaal Charles set a Chiefs rushing record. /KnowMo

That's awesome.

First time I went to Vegas was for a bachelor party for my BIL's brother. I knew some of the guys, but didn't know most. Anyway, we had been in town all of an hour, walking the floor at MGM when we pass a roulette table.

One of the guys suggested that the groom-to-be lay a $100 bet on his soon to be wife's birthday, 7.

He wants no part of it, and we're about to walk away, when I realize that the 7th is my wife's birthday as well. I say **** it, and lay $100 on 7.

Sure as shit, it hits.

$3500 the hard way.

That's ****ing beautiful. I had never played roulette in my life and 7 is my lucky number. I put $10 on it one night in the tribal casino down the road a ways and everyone looked at me like I was a total n00b. I loved picking the $350 in chips up off the table.

You know I like a little gambow gambow now and again. These are the types of reasons why. If this shit never happened, we wouldn't play right?

I've never laid a bet on a roulette table since.

You know I'll bet there are more people that have won off the number 7 vs. all the other numbers. A lot of people like lucky number seven.

I played for a few minutes here and there just to learn the game that night. I broke even the rest of the way and walked away with the $350. I've never played it since either. I'm pretty much a card guy, and I'll handicap a horse twice a year.

Yep.

I pretty much stick to live Poker, and I'll occasionally hit a Blackjack or Craps table with the wife.

Haven't played the ponies in YEARS, though we have a track across the river.

You play a little poker don't you? Or are you not much of a gambler at all? I always thought you liked to play a little bit. Hootie is probably the only person who starts more gambling threads than I do, but I only play every once in a while. I'm much more fond of chasing sure money.

Answered my question. I never really go to the track. I have a few times over the years, but I generally will handicap the big races and put a few bucks on them. Much like the $11 in tickets I put up tonight.

I've always kind of enjoyed watching horse races, and I've done pretty well handicapping them. For whatever reason when I put money on them is when I tend to miss.

Yeah, I actually used to deal, and still play occasionally.

When we're in Vegas, you'll pretty much exclusively find me at a 4-8 HE table, or a 4-8 Omaha 8/b table.

We had a card room out here that played Omaha on Fridays only. It was a 2-8 spread game, and it was a solid form of income for me until that place closed down.

I don't count on ever making any money playing 3-6 limit hold em, which unless I go 35 miles up the street to that tribal casino I mentioned earlier, is the only thing I can play around here.

But that Omaha game was so ****ing loose that literally 8 times out of 10 I'd walk out of there up a few hundred bucks and never down more than a bill. A lot of people just don't understand that Omaha is a game of nut flushes and full houses, and even when you have them, you have to lay them down sometimes. I wish I could find that kind of game again..............

That's the nut I've never cracked. The most I've ever won in the lottery was $200 on a scratch ticket. I don't play very much though.

When I was 8 I would ride my bike to my "girlfriends" house a few blocks away. Every day I'd ride past this unopened McDonald's game piece. This was back when you had to tear the two paper strips off the sides and unfold it to see what your piece was. It was the goldrush game (1980).

One day I stopped and bent down to pick up that piece. I opened it and it was an image of a hand with pickaxe picking a big piece of dirt. I figured you need the other three squares to build the whole picture with the guy's head and arm and torso, etc. I tossed it on the ground and rode away.
Later that week we went to McDonald's and I picked up a game booklet. I looked for that image in the book and found out it was a $100 instant winner (mind you I was 8 and poor and it was 1980 so that was like a million dollars to me at the time).

I rode back over to that street looking for the chucked piece. I never found it.
