He's not going anywhere. Back-back NCAA shows....he is going to stay at MU and build out a great program.

I don't see why he would move anyway. He just had a monster recruiting class. I would think that he would want to stay here now that he finally has got the team the way he wants it. It makes no sense to leave after cleaning up the huge mess of a team he inherited.

I would be worried if I were MU. Oregon has more money than god. If they target you, and you aren't already at an elite program, they'll probably convince you with enough zeros.

I thought that he already turned down a $3 million per year offer. I heard it on 810 a couple of days ago, I think.

Oregon has Nike money. But I think Anderson will stay.
Oregon might want to call Quin Snyder. He's available.

Can Missouri keep Mike Anderson?

By Eamonn Brennan

If I was a Missouri fan, I'd be freaking out right now.

Sorry, but it's true. Mike Anderson has overseen a basketball renaissance at Missouri since taking over for the scandal-ridden Quin Snyder in 2006. Anderson has installed a system, based on Nolan Richardson's famed "40 Minutes of Hell," that is unlike any other basketball strategy in the country. What's more, he's able to get his players to buy in, to play like pressing, shot-flinging, ball-deflecting banshees for 40 minutes. And it works. Anderson took over a program in disarray and in four short years is perennially competing for Big 12 titles already gone to an Elite Eight with what some would classify as inferior talent. Now, Anderson has talent rolling in, a guard-heavy No. 11-ranked recruiting class primed to keep Missouri in the tournament for years to come.

That is, if Mike Anderson doesn't go to Oregon. That "if" is getting bigger by the day.

Late Thursday night, The Oregonian reported that Anderson and Oregon athletic director Pat Kilkenny met in El Paso, Texas, where they talked face-to-face about Oregon's conspicuous college basketball coaching availability. The Ducks have been floundering in trying to land a coach, something of a surprise given their Nike resources and the brand new arena just built in Eugene, Ore. Original reports by WHB 810 in Kansas City indicated that Anderson initially turned down a $3 million offer from Oregon, but the Oregonian's report insists that "talks are ongoing."

Oregon has taken a deserved amount of flack from the college basketball world for its bumbling, outsized coaching search. Tom Izzo? John Calipari? Heck, a source told Dana O'Neil that Oregon started its coaching search by looking only at candidates that had won a national title. Seriously. Oregon limited its prospective pool of candidates entirely to those it had absolutely no shot of hiring. There's something to be said for shooting for the stars, but yeesh.

The Ducks have a chance to remedy all that by hiring Anderson. The outsized self-impression? The institutional ego? The assumption that money can buy you prestige? Whatever. Anderson would be a huge coup, the best Oregon could have done under the circumstances. For Anderson, the chance to build on Oregon's alluring foundation -- all that Nike money, that glimmering new arena, all of it -- would be just as tempting and driven by ego. Anderson has proven that he can win at UAB and Missouri. Why not try it a place where the risks, rewards, spotlight and, oh yeah, the money, would be exponentially greater?

Which is where Missouri comes in. If they want to keep Anderson, it's time to pony up. (It's worth considering the possibility that Anderson is merely flirting with Oregon to boost his own salary at Mizzou. Let's not forget that.) More cash, new facilities, whatever; Mike Anderson is the best thing to happen to Tiger basketball in a long time, and if he leaves, it's back to square one. Does Missouri want to be a stepping stone or not? It's time to decide.

The result of that decision will have a lot to do with whether Mike Anderson becomes Oregon's latest shiny toy. Missouri's pocketbooks versus Oregon's. Mano a moneyo. Like I said, if I were a Missouri fan, I'd be freaking out right now.

Well if originally turned down a $3/yr offer, and talks are still ongoing, Oregon must have upped the ante' a little bit, which is insane. Doesn't Anderson only make $1.5M now?

Oregon's search turns to Anderson
By Andy Katz

ESPN.com

Oregon asked for permission to speak with Missouri coach Mike Anderson late Thursday night after it had already spoken with him at a golf event in El Paso, Texas.

A Missouri official confirmed Friday that Oregon, which fired Ernie Kent a month ago, asked to speak with Anderson. The Oregonian first reported that Anderson and former athletic director Pat Kilkenny, who is leading the job search, met Anderson earlier Thursday in Texas at Nolan Richardson's golf tournament. Anderson was on Richardson's coaching staffs at Tulsa and Arkansas.

Missouri athletic director Mike Alden told ESPN.com on Thursday afternoon that he had yet to hear from Oregon. The request came later that night.

A school asking for permission to speak with a coach is a formality but doesn't always occur prior to a discussion between the two parties.

The mood among Missouri officials is one of cautious optimism. Anderson has coached the Tigers to NCAA tournament appearances in the last two seasons, reaching the Elite Eight in 2008-09, and Missouri just assembled the best recruiting class (Phil Pressey, Tony Mitchell, Ricky Kreklow and Kadeem Green) under Anderson. ESPNU's Scouts Inc. rates Missouri's class 11th in the country.

Guards Kim English and Marcus Denmon and inside player Justin Safford inside, who missed the last six games of the season due to injury, also are returning for next season. The Tigers are expected to project as one of the Big 12's top teams.

Anderson received a seven-year extension from Missouri last season and had his annual salary bumped to $1.55 million. Anderson was courted by Georgia a year ago but instead accepted a significant raise to remain with Missouri. A source said Missouri is not in a position to offer Anderson more money this time around.

Sources close to Anderson say that if he were to leave Missouri in the future, the job at Arkansas -- if it ever opened -- is one he'd have strong interest in.

Former NBA coaches P.J. Carlesimo and Terry Porter remains Oregon candidates. Former Alabama coach Mark Gottfried, a long-time assistant at UCLA when the Bruins won the national title in 1995, is also on the Ducks' list.

The Ducks have reportedly made overtures to a significant number of head coaches like Florida's Billy Donovan, Pitt's Jamie Dixon, Minnesota's Tubby Smith and Michigan State's Tom Izzo. But how much was actually offered has not been determined. The one certainty was that Oregon wanted to hire Gonzaga coach Mark Few, a Eugene-area native, but was rebuffed by the coach.

Senior writer Andy Katz covers college basketball for ESPN.com.

Personally, I'm kind of sick of the Big 12 being a stepping stone to other conferences. This is one of 2 or 3 premiere basketball conferences in america, and should be seen as such.

How many coaches have entertained offers from other schools just this offseason? Drew? Capel? now Anderson? Bzdelik already left. Rumors have Travis Ford heading to Kentucky if Cal bolts for the NBA.

At least Frankenstein and Turg stayed.

Anderson turned down Georgia's $2/2.5M last year with an average recruiting class coming in, and he'll turn down Oregon's $3M this year with a top 10 class coming in. Also, he has the two sons of one of his closest friends coming to play for him next year. This is all just Oregon throwing money around hoping it will stick somewhere.

I agree, it doesn't make sense to leave now, and for Oregon.

It makes more sense to use this class (and returners) to aim for a Final Four in the next couple of years. If that happens, then he'll have bigger and better programs than Oregon's calling offering even more money.

By staying at MU, he's a lot closer to reaching that level than if he went to Oregon. JMO.
