Other Sports Sports Star endorses a product

Was watching 30 Rock and a commercial came on with Michelle Wie endorsing a Kia Soul.

I started thinking of other questionable products endorsed by sports celebrities. A search led me to a few gems.

Jim McMahon: Honda Scooters

Jimmy Johnson Extenze Commercial - Extenze Male Enhancement

Poor Jimmy. I'll never again see him in the same light. lol

Anyhow...

Does an athlete's endorsement of a product make any difference to you at all as a consumer? If it does, does it matter if the product they are endorsing is related to their area of expertise?

It apparently makes a difference to someone because companies seem to keep tripping over themselves to get some random athlete to pitch their product... even if it is completely unrelated to what they are famous for.

I was always amused by Tiger Woods pitching Buicks...like he would ever roll in one of those.

I remember when Eli was flat sucking ass, and the Citizen Eco Drive watch would always say "UNSTOPPABLE, ELI MANNING IS".. Made me just about lol every time, but of course this was before he flipped the magic switch and became good.
