Potentially bogus AT&T DSL charge and switching to cable internet
Admittedly, I'm not the best at reacting to changes in the amounts I'm billed. Bills go on auto pay, and it's out of mind until something comes up. Like Sunday, when my internet is shut off. Apparently they jacked up my bill from $33 to $40 and tacked on late fees that are close to the $7 underpayment. I'm a bad person, etc.
The real issue, however, is a $30 "high spd internet restoral fee" they charged on 6/9, before service had been disconnected. Here's the terms of service: http://www.att.com/u-verse/att-terms-of-service.jsp Suspension/Termination by AT&T. Your Services may be suspended or terminated if your payment is past due. AT&T may also suspend or terminate your Services if it is determined that there is previously unpaid, undisputed and outstanding debt for U-verse service. Such suspension or termination may continue until satisfactory arrangements have been made for the payment of all past unpaid charges. While your Services are suspended you will not receive automatic credit balances (if any are due) and billing will continue for your monthly charges, and any applicable promotional offers may be discontinued and revoked as determined solely by AT&T. You will be charged a fee to restore your Service from suspension. So, if I'm reading this correctly, suspension is some kind of purgatory between normal, uninterrupted service, and disconnected. Can anyone shed any light on what an account suspension actually means? 2nd part: looks like I'll be switching to Mediacom, as it's substantially cheaper. Any recs on a combo modem/router? |

AT&T sent me a long distance phone bill for over $500 dollars a while back. I explained to their collections agent on the phone that I had been using Sprint for years and was sure I didn't owe them anything. They refused to consider the possibility that they had made an error. They harassed me every night for about 6 months even though I offered to send them copies of my Sprint statements. Then they sent me to collections which ruined my credit at a time when I was applying for my daughter's student loans. Of course that meant that I had to pay higher interest rates for the loans and was ineligible for assistance.
They finally stopped after I called the Missouri Attorney General who informed me there was a class action suite against them for this. It seems they reached out and touched a lot of people in our state. Do what you want but I personally will never use their services nor will anyone in my family use them ever again. It has been over five years and we are still paying for those high interest rate loans. I mean just on logic alone, why would I have two long distance companies? |
