Yes a civilian who saw it happen made the "officer down" call on the fallen officers radio you hear in the video, the civilian helped in the capture of the suspect with description and direction of travel. An anonymous 911 call came in about a guy who was bragging about shooting the officer to his roommate also helped

Seems like captured is not quite the word to use here.

The lesson: Don't shoot cops, their brothers in arms do not take kindly to it.

Evidently the guy was just some savage prick with a death wish:

http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/127226128.html

Shot some other poor schmuck in the face and wrote a suicide note before the whole thing. This guy murdered someone who appeared to be a damn fine individual, then got exactly what he wanted when the police gunned him down.

There's just no silver lining here. Though I'll say - stuff like this makes me want to believe in an afterlife more than all the happy stories about angels and harps combined. I hope this ****er is tormented for eternity in some deep dark hell somewhere.

Well at least he won't be costing tax payer dollars to try, imprison, appeal and then execute him.

Cops get shit on alot, but the majority of them are good people trying to a particularly tough job.

Damn. Seems like so often the very best of us get taken so tragically early. Heartbreaking. Will say this, though: We're all here such a short time. How many will leave a more impressive legacy?

Just like when your momma said, just who you hang around with can label you. Same shit applies with cops. one or 2 bad seeds can ruin it for the rest.

It sux, i met some truely really cool cops. and i have met some of the most corrupt asshole cops as well. About 4 years ago. one got killed about 2 blocks from my house and the talk of the town was, that cop was an asshole and virtually no one was upset about it. I heard, it was going to happen eventually, he was a real asshole.

It sux that its that way and to the cop that died in this video RIP. I dont like see'ing anyone killed, its a shame.

Most cops are good people. Sure, you run into the occasional cop on a power trip, especially in little shit bergs or bigger cities. I have to say that my job forces me to work with pd a lot. 99.5% of them are good cops around here. This especially bodes for the officers that work out of the north district and down town. West Omaha cops are just bored because all they do all day is pull over soccer moms high on valumn and vodka.

There's a Officer's Memorial in Washington DC that most people skip when they visit, but it's one we used to view. It has the names of officers who were killed in duty inscribed on a low wall and shows some adult lions protecting cubs.
If you visit DC and haven't ever seen it I recommend checking it out.

Saw this story on the Today show this morning before heading to work. One of the people at his funeral said his last deed was to buy a kid lunch. I was thinking it was going to be a bit more substantial than a package of cookies. Still, he took the time to ask the kid a question and give him advice. That, to me, was the better deed. Just taking the time to show interest in a youth's life.
